May 25, 20206 yr Egat eyes new contract with PTT on natural gas purchase By The Nation The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat) is getting ready to sign a Global Daily Contract Quantity (Global DCQ) contract to purchase natural gas from PTT once its current short-term contract expires on June 30. The new DCQ will go into effect from July 1. Egat’s board, chaired by Energy Ministry’s permanent secretary Kulit Sombatsiri, approved the contract on Friday (May 22) after it was given the attorney-general’s okay. As per the contract, PTT supply natural gas to all of Egat’s power plants with the exception of Nam Phong power plant, for which a 10-year (2020-2029) operation contract is being negotiated. Egat initially set the liquified natural gas (LNG) trade volume from 3.5 million to 5 million tonnes per year as between 5 million and 6 million tonnes of LNG is required to produce electricity per year. The Global DCQ contract was part of a resolution made by Energy Minister Sontirat Sontijirawong and Committee on Energy Policy Administration.
