Given that pretty much the only cases here in the last 3 weeks have come from quarantine facilities, you have to ask why the continuation of the emergency decree? You can't catch it, if there isn't an

I know the stance Thailand has taken isn’t popular and it’s caused me no end of grief too but they appear to have fared better than many far wealthier and supposedly brighter western countries.

Meanwhile the rest of the world who has had infections are opening their countries again and stopping their control measures to allow people their freedoms again. Thailand though seems to be using this state of emergency as an excuse to control the population and prevent students from rioting against the government which is being planned as I have read previously. We don't need a state 9f emergency anymore. Just need life to go back to semi normality with some restrictions on social distancing and mask wearing.

There is no such thing as Covid-19 it's just a strain of seasonal flu as shown by all of the independent doctors and virologists speaking out over the last month.

The figures point to it being even less dangerous than common flu with less deaths than a common seasonal flu around the world.

We have all been fooled folks, it's not a complete hoax but it sure has been blown waaaay out of proportion - ask yourself, are we going to do this again when next year's seasonal flu comes around ?? Are people really that stupid ? Use your grey cells.

Wonder what this is really all about - anyone have any ideas?

To a certain extent the decision is correct. However, we HAVE to begin resuming normal life and cannot hide away from this virus.

Define fared better? Unemployment and bad economy kills too... https://apnews.com/ea3be7fb82bf4bec90a00d75957f833b

According to studies (not only this one) unemployment reduces life expectancy by years. The stress, anxiety, mental health issues, suicide, addiction etc that comes with it.

Also, what is the actual plan for covid here? Are we gonna be locked down until we get herd immunity? (We are far from it) Are we gonna be locked down until the virus is eradicated? (Not happening) are we staying locked down until there is vaccine? (Probably a year away if ever.. making vaccines is not easy)

I think in hindsight Sweden made the right decision in not destroying the economy and letting this slightly worse than the common flu virus do it's thing.

More luck than judgement.

Now THERE’S a first ( for me at least) , a conspiracy theorist asking everyone what the conspiracy is???? Get a grip, buckle down, do your time, this is by no means a hardship posting for lockdown. Count your blessings, would you rather  be standing outside number ten protesting Dominic’s guilt or lying by your pool with the sun on your back sipping a cold one?

I don't understand the whinging. I am retired here. Yes, the lock down kept me out of the bars, kept me of the golf course. Couldn't fish. Didn't see friends as much. But I am alive and healthy.

This is quite frustrating. I have a signed work contract to teach math in a state school from July 1st. I am like all teachers, suffering with loss of income. It will soon get to a point that I wont have the finances to fly to Thailand to take this job...

I cannot understand that if the virus is only within returnees. A state quarantine program is the best. I for one am happy to undertake this.

Moreover, most people in other countries are also in lockdown and as europe is opening up we are healthy and ready to travel and work.

If you are so concerned about the loss of income, why come to Thailand to teach

There are better paying places in the world

June 30 - which year?

Would you accept to be jailed, even if you had done nothing wrong, if in return it would extend your life?

But, there again, Western nations such as France and the UK who have, in effect, placed residents on indefinite house arrest should, on the other hand, be fulsomely praised to the very highest heavens as being the best thing since sliced bread in your eyes, shouldn't they?

Sorry mate, couldn't find the LOL/Thanks button.

Was fully clear that they will extend it. All those old dinosaurs have no clue about daily life. And like always, the most important thing is to not lose their faces. What about the thousands of guys wanting to return to their families in TH? Holding valid visa/marriage certificates Most of them are desperate and would be happy to pay 50k THB for a 2 weeks hotel quarantine to just get back. There are still daily empty flights from Europe. Or why they can`t admit that it was a fault to keep the schools closed until 1st of July. All those poor kids in state schools are lost. It`s impossible to catch up 4 months of stuff and e-learning has 0 effect in this country.

It`s like always in TH. Stick to the rules, even they make 0 sense.

About the schools ....they seem to be afraid the young generation would become learning to think....and could even start reading and understand why the French revolution ever happened........

They really are scared from that student mouvement of Thanatorn seems

Yeah it's all about you. Because we had to keep you safe 27 million people had to become unemployed. God forbid we let them work while you stay home.

The figures point to it being less dangerous blahblahblah

Point to what being less dangerous? Oh ... yeah ... Covid-19 which , errr. doesn't exist ...

Excellent. Without doubt the most vacuous remarks I have heard all year.

Your seasonal flu of 1918/19 killed an estimated 50,000,000 people, 500,000,000 had the virus, what are your thoughts on that...?

If your finances are almost down to “Just being able to afford an air fare”.  I would strongly suggest that you do not travel to Thailand.    There is no social security here.

What is not mentioned in the reasoning for the low infection rate here is the heat. One doesn’t need to be a brain surgeon to figure this out, viruses such as the Covid strain don’t do well in the heat and die off quickly. All this chest puffing by the junta about the great job they’re doing is so much nonsense—thank Mother Nature.

I think it is personal - - - a big plot to make you wear a mask and everyone is in on it but you... a giant joke on you... we have closed restaurants and businesses... actually, everyone is down at the beach having fun...

maybe next year you will get an immunity memo and we will ban together to fool someone else...

Why is it referred to as a “state of emergency” when all it really is is the tail end of the quarantine?

Edited by KingDong75

It’s actually supposed to be called the final phase of the lockdown, or quarantine or whatever you call this.

Should someone explain to me the logic behind the decision to extend the emergency ordinance to June 30th, but to consider reducing the curfew. What good is the possibility of going out until midnight if you have no way to sit on the beach with friends or have a drink somewhere without restriction? This new decision is absolutely not understandable!

Maintaining the  "State of Emergency" status does not  necessarily mean  the continuation of  all the measures it empowers authorities  to apply.

The one  most important is the compulsory  quarantine of arrivals from outside Thailand.

Most others are incrementally being relaxed to the point where most social functions are inconvenienced rather than restricted.
