The Cabinet on Tuesday (May 26) resolved to extend the state of emergency until the end of June.

On Wednesday, the panel chaired by National Security Council secretary-general, General Somsak Rungsita, will meet to discuss the third phase of easing lockdown measures as well as whether the curfew should be reduced to midnight to 4am. The third phase of easing measures is expected to kick in from June 1.

The meeting’s resolution will be proposed to the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration on Friday (May 29) and guidelines for businesses and activities under the third phase will be announced on Saturday.

Given that pretty much the only cases here in the last 3 weeks have come from quarantine facilities, you have to ask why the continuation of the emergency decree? You can't catch it, if there isn't anyone out there with it, to catch it from. The only conclusion you can then draw is that power hungry regimes never like to give any freedoms back to the people once they have it. I suspect many personal liberties will somehow never be fully returned, such as large crowds, which very soon may be in the form of starving and angry mobs.

But, there again, Western nations such as France and the UK who have, in effect, placed residents on indefinite house arrest should, on the other hand, be fulsomely praised to the very highest heavens as being the best thing since sliced bread in your eyes, shouldn't they?

This is great news!!!

I'll eagerly hide in my room until the vaccine gets to me in the year 2029.

I would like to try to help businesses who are struggling, but I need a work permit.  I was even ready to work in the fields for free.

They say, "Life is short."  Well, 2020 is really going by fast.......

super happy, stay positive, go with the flow of the Universe, submit to the powers that be, smile at everything, relax.

good times

shows the type of government here; bunch of old stupid generals

This is quite frustrating. I have a signed work contract to teach math in a state school from July 1st. I am like all teachers, suffering with loss of income. It will soon get to a point that I wont have the finances to fly to Thailand to take this job...

I cannot understand that if the virus is only within returnees. A state quarantine program is the best. I for one am happy to undertake this.

Moreover, most people in other countries are also in lockdown and as europe is opening up we are healthy and ready to travel and work.

The irony being the virus and pandemic were born out of authoritarianism.

They scared second wave! That can come anytime! Next year, year after that or in year 2041!So they continue all emergency  until get they loved second wave?

Not going to help nobody! If come it come dosent matter what you do in meanwhile! If many more people get infected after all is old normal. Then do something! This is killing all the fun and most it kill peoples living!

I think that they are trying to remain in step somewhat with the rest of the region.

I agree some personal liberties may be gone for the foreseeable future.

Was fully clear that they will extend it. All those old dinosaurs have no clue about daily life. And like always, the most important thing is to not lose their faces. What about the thousands of guys wanting to return to their families in TH? Holding valid visa/marriage certificates Most of them are desperate and would be happy to pay 50k THB for a 2 weeks hotel quarantine to just get back. There are still daily empty flights from Europe. Or why they can`t admit that it was a fault to keep the schools closed until 1st of July. All those poor kids in state schools are lost. It`s impossible to catch up 4 months of stuff and e-learning has 0 effect in this country.

It`s like always in TH. Stick to the rules, even they make 0 sense.

Domestic tourism should certainly pick up with this announcement.

Genius.

That was probably the biggest mistake, a decision made way too early, in a state of panic.

The curfew is also useless, yet will be extended for another month, you can count on it.

Now, the only reason why the state of emergency might be needed is to keep the borders closed, which is good policy for the time being.

Everything else should reopen asap.

What those in charge still don't seem to grasp is that it is not because it is open that people are rushing in...just look at the malls, at least outside Bangkok, open but empty...

Disease free? In case you do not know, Covid 19 is not the only existing virus.

Wait for the compulsory vaccinations..

..and no visa if you haven't taken it.

Food security is one of the things that causes revolutions when not there. Thailand being a major producer has no supply problems, but may have created a demand problem with the lockdowns. If the peasants get hungry, they'll finally pick up the pitchforks and fire up the kubotas to march into Bangkok.

The end of the emergency decree should coincide when China opens it's airports. Why before?

The State of Emergency is here to stay. It may recede into the background, it may like the curfew, gradually be reduced to the stage where it is meaningless, just marking time in the background, but it will remain. When anything threatens order and stability (a.k.a. the survival of the regime) it can and will be resurrected and reimposed.  Just wait until the first protest meeting, or when elections, local or national, fall due.

It has got the cubed root of b*gg*r all to do with fighting the pandemic.

Brazil is averaging 1000 people a day dying from this disease you call a power play.

I can't understand people with their head so far up their rump, they can't even

admit this is a real disease and it is killing thousands.

Not only that but most experts in this field say it is not expect to burn out

and will be with us for some distance into the future.

No one is dragging you into anything, you really can do pretty much what ever you want right now.

Just be content to do what you want to do and stop expecting other people to act

like you.

Maybe bar owners or the folks who would work there,

don't want to open right now, maybe store employees don't you

coming in breathing in their face.

You aren't just satisfied to go your own way, you want others to wait on you,

to carry your bag for a few baht.

You want all your little pleasures back even

it cost someone their life.

Tuff, grow up.

I think you will find that is because the climate is in Thailands favour more then exceptional management. However lack of virus is good news for all in Thailand and to be cautious is understandable.

Are the Thai schools shut until end of June?
