The pickup driver is an idiot.  The fastest line would have been to undertake on the inside of the curve on the road shoulder.  He maybe could have nudged the truck driver onto or over the yellow line a bit and no oncoming traffic would mess with that big truck.  Taking the short line also saves fuel. 

Just a load of froth with the usual rubbish "evidence" thrown in that does nothing more than reinforces bias.

My wife suggested that was the lack of Lao Khao that reduced the accident figures. It disappeared within a few days of the ban being imposed apparently and once it had been consumed, many people could not afford the more expensive spirits that were available. They, of course, were in limited supply and being sold at black market prices.

What is more important is a knowledge of English usage - and in day-to-day conversation one will often hear less used with plural countable nouns in informal spoken situations, but traditionally it is not considered to be correct.

In English their are no rules only conventions and grammar nazis

This phot is repeatedly shown...as evidence it is meaningless - firstly it could happen in any country - there are no stats to back the allegation and it is actually impossible to see the whole picture.

furthermore 73% of deaths are motorcyclists not 4 wheeled private vehicles which turned out to be just as safe as in the USA.

What this photo is, is a classic example of information bias - all it does is reinforce erroneously held prejudgements.

E.G. it tries to support the myth that Thai drivers are inherently worse than their "superior" counterparts from the West. However this kind of allegedly irresponsible diving occurs world wide - the difference is that roads and emergency systems are simply not in place in Thailand to cope with even "normal" human errors in driving.

 

UK has one of the lowest death rates in the world.........

Broken yellow centre lines so overtaking is allowed according to the highway code.

 

Obviously depends on what sort of view the driver has but I personally wouldn't be taking the chance.

The apparent incident - and it is not possible to accurately define what is groin on, is irrelevant to any serious conclusion about road safety in Thailand.......

It would require a new police force

Redesigned roads

New and accurate equipment that is regularly calibrated by a recognised and independent body.

A totally revised court system.

A new driving licence system

Massive turn around in government policy etc etc

 

The post being that road safety in Thailand requires reform from the roots up.

In fact alcohol insolvent in RTIs is about 30% which is only marginally higher that the world average,    the truth is that just looking at single issues of road safety won't make the blindest difference - as 3 decades of pronouncements by successive governments has indisputably shown.

Lines are white in the middle of a one way road.

 

Yellow in the middle of a normal two-way road.

This is 2 way road but dashed yellow indicates it may be crossed over.

 

It is possible that te pickup can see perfectly well what is coming.

It should also be noted how wide the road is as well.

 

The photo is still an irrleent piece of rubbish as a comment on road safety.

Private 4-wheeled vehicles are also slightly less likely to have a fatal accident than in the USA
