Covid-19 measures must not be used to violate human rights: Amnesty

On May 26, the government decided to extend the state of emergency, which was first imposed on March 26 in response to the Covid-19 pandemic and has been used to restrict movement, peaceful assembly, privacy and freedom of expression, with penalties of imprisonment and/or fines.

As the government reconsiders the exact measures it will take to address the outbreak after two months of lockdown, Amnesty International is calling on the authorities to ensure the restrictions it imposes are balanced and necessary.

It is also calling on the government to employ measures that protect the rights of marginalised groups, who face greater risks because they cannot effectively protect themselves, face obstacles in accessing information about the virus as well adequate healthcare and services. They also lack the capacity to comply with the government’s existing measures.

Amnesty is also calling on the government to lift the charges faced by individuals who are being penalised for exercising their right to freedom of expression, stop the detention of refugees and migrants, and refrain from using restrictions to target critics with punishments that are politically motivated.

While the right to freedom of peaceful assembly can be restricted to protect public health, those facing charges for breaching social distancing measures should never face imprisonment.

Have they seen who is ruling Thailand nowadays !

Obviously not !

Does anyone know why Thailand has such good numbers with C19?   My math has it 342 times safer than the USA in deaths per citizen.  I rarely see anything positive here, not unusual for expats, but I would like some opinions for folks back in the USA

The state of emergency is there purely due to suppressing the student protests.

Covid has given authoritarian regimes an excuse to crack down. Take a look at Hong Kong and CCP.

Evidence is emerging of a possible link between Vitamin D deficiency and vulnerability to the latest corona virus, which could help explain why northern hemisphere countries have fared worse than those in sunnier southern climes.

There seems to be a correlation, not yet established as causal, between the amount of immunity system-boosting UV radiation one is able to absorb and the ability to fight off the germs which cause colds, respiratory diseases, etc.

Is it just a coincidence that flu seasons in the both the northern and southern hemisphere tend to occur in their respective winters, when sun - a natural rich source of Vitamin D - shines least? Thailand's winter (the monsoon season) is fast approaching, so we could soon find out the hard way!

I particularly recommend the video, which provides the scientific evidence for a possible Vitamin D/Coronavirus link.

People have been taking vitamin D supplements in the winter in Finland for decades, this is well known. The effect is not strong, but it does exist.

As this is a new virus, the immune system must learn to recognize it first. It's unlikely vitamin D plays a significant role in that, it would come to play after the T and B cells need to replicate rapidly.

Yes I was aware of this before, a few weeks ago I saw a study on it and bought a supply of Vit D3, ran out after a couple of weeks then just had a few bottles delivered a couple of days ago, I take Vit C and zinc also. All pharmacies my way have sold out

Bottom line gov bin this advice and embrace the criminals that destroyed our lives.
