Thailand’s National Electronics and Computer Technology Centre (NECTEC) and the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) are cooperating in the development of a compact facial thermal scanning device, which will be capable of accurately scanning the temperatures of several people simultaneously.

The device, called the “u Therm-FaceSense”, can measure the precise temperatures of several people at a time from a distance of 1.5 metres, even if they are wearing face masks. Results are produced in a tenth of a second.

The portable device can easily be installed in hospitals, schools, shopping malls, rail stations or any other location.

And half of them of dubious quality.

As there is no clarity on technical specifications, devices are imported

Are we using the right thermal body scanners for screening temperature as a measure to prevent the spread of Covid-19? May be not.

In fact, there seems to be a lack of clarity on these thermal scanning devices. Multiple thermal scanners reviewed by BusinessLine reported different temperatures for the same human body. The temperature displayed on these scanners varied from 87°F to 97.5°F within a span of 30 minutes. No other metrics were changed between these tests.

Asked about the varying temperatures exhibited by these devices, an online retailer said, “We don’t know about the technical specifications of these devices, we just act as traders for these thermal scanners. The product is manufactured and imported from China and that is all we know.”

Yep, they already did that back in 2006 to 2010 until the army had to come out and start shooting.

Your very ...ahm...unique POV in this little nugget: "No emotionally inept's running wild, looting, burning and smashing.  so the Thai's are ahead on that front. "

Seen this week... The Promenade next to Fashion Island uses a body heat scanner (Parking / Gourmet Market entrance).

But will the local one be any better?

A Politician lie detector might be more useful

Similar scanner in use at Big C Extra Chiangmai a couple of weeks ago.

Not needed, if their lips are moving, they're lying.
