Longan farmers want guaranteed price for crop

Longan farmers have asked the government to subsidise a minimum price for their crops.

 

Representatives of farmers in the North submitted their proposal on Wednesday (June 10) to Thammanat Prompao, the Deputy Agriculture Minister, through Sompong Amornwiwat, Pheu Thai MP and opposition leader.

 

They asked the government to guarantee prices for a total of 196,655 farming households in 33 provinces across the country.

 

The farmers want price guarantees of Bt40 per kilogram for AA-grade longan or compensation of Bt8 per kilo, since the fruit’s market price has now fallen to Bt32 per kilo.

 

The government has already set a price guarantee for rubber at Bt60 per kilo, double the market price of Bt30.

 

Sompong said he would put the price-guarantee request to the House of Representatives and ask the government for remedial measures. Fruit farmers have been badly hit by the Covid-19 crisis, which has seen exports and demand for their crops plummet, dragging down the market price.

Logan Farmers need to know, in life nothing is guaranteed,

but seeing the Government is giving out money right and

left,they now have their hands out.

Like there are no farm subsidies in western countries!

Some like Switzerland so basically old people have a hobby.

It doesn't matter what the farmers grow if the price is High Avery one star grown the crop,Than there's a Glut and the price goes Way down. Same thing with the Rubber .Same  happen in Aus with the Bananas/Sugar cane and a few more crops .

That's the live of a farmer, Knowing When and What to Grow.Don't start Crying when you Stuff up and Cry for Government Assistance. Every Business has Good and Not so good times .Get over it and get you're act together. ????

The people pay this guaranteed price. 

 

I saw recently that an egg costs the producer, (not the chicken) 2.68 baht. If this is the price to produce and they need to make a profit, then a reasonable mark up is required. Add transportation and retail costs, storage etc and this makes an egg an expensive item.

Let's say the producer wants a guaranteed price of 3 baht per egg. 12% Mark up...transporter wants a guaranteed price, retailer wants a guaranteed price.

Customer refuses to pay 5 baht per egg, buys a hen.

 

Get a life, producers. Nothing is guaranteed. Make the price too high and no one will buy. No one needs longans. People need water and rice.
