Commuters travelling by bus in Bangkok have been urged to scan the QR code of the ThaiChana application to help improve scrutiny of Covid-19 cases.

Surachai Iamwachirasakul, director of Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA), said on Wednesday (June 10) that from June 11 onwards, the BMTA would seek the cooperation of passengers to scan the QR code of the ThaiChana mobile app when they get on and off the bus. “The BMTA has installed QR code stickers in several places on the bus, including the front, the windows, the back and behind each seat,” he said.

The government introduced the ThaiChana (Thai Victory) Covid-19 contact-tracing platform on May 17 to allow customers to check in and out of venues by scanning a QR code. The application aims to help in the investigation of Covid-19 cases by tracing where the phone users have been before the symptoms showed up, in case they contract the new coronavirus.

“BMTA has also ordered all staff and visitors to scan the QR code of ThaiChana every time they enter and leave the BMTA premises since the application was launched,” added Surachai.

“We are committed to following the orders and suggestions of the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration to ensure that all staff and customers are safe and that the crisis be over as soon as possible.”

if the want people to use this then they should be offering a free data connection cause it doesn't work without it

It would be lovely if they also added ability to check yourself out without the QR code in case you left and forgot. The way the "app" is written is simple to use but some improvements could be made, like how am I supposed to know if local 7-11 wipes the floor every hour when I'm in there for 5 min? The rating at the end insists all entries are answered with yes or no, but at least there's Don't rate at the bottom.

'urged to scan the code,' so not required.

And no mention of the alternative to hand write entry if one cannot scan code?

This policy appears to be one for personal convenience, political projection and not intended for general public safety.

Inept health policies like this one degenerates the overall efforts to contain the virus.

For most people it does work, and getting more than 70% is better than nothing, right?
