Then they should not include China, since they play the "blame game" on expert level.

DLock
You'd have to be pretty desperate to spend all that money to look out over Mt Fuji or the beach at Da Nang for 14 days. Whilst domestic tourism will never come close to ripping off Barry and Sharon from Cabramatta every chance they get, it will help keep some sectors employed. The powers that be are just not very bright.

You really think countries will indefinitely close their borders to tourists for potentially years? No chance IMO. It's not going to be years, but it won't be this year. You seem to not understand that they can open them, the other countries have to allow them in. I have no doubt Thailand will open it's borders, that's not the issue. Japan and China won't let them back in. You can travel as a Japanese but if you do you are NOT allowed back into the country, and there is no differentiation between japanese or foreigner. It's June 12 and there is no tourism anywhere except for Greece. Greece numbers are basically zero right now even though they are open. 2021? Anything is possible but for this year I don't see it nor does anyone else in the airline industry.

But you cannot blame the government for at least attempting it. The amount that people in this industry are hurting all over the world including Rome, Japan, Thailand are staggering. And it is not coming back. It's top tourist season in Europe and where are the tourists? They're at home.

No doubt the tourism industry will survive in Europe this summer. I'm not so sure about Thailand. There is not even a thought about a good containment strategy including tourism. Only total denial.
ChouDoufu
seems like hub of bubble tourism is the perfect setting to expand zero-dollah tours. group of tourists pay a fixed fee to join a tour, they get tested locally when they make their booking, and are tested again at the departure terminal. they all get loaded into one charter aeroplane. they get tested again upon arrival, and (testing negative) are loaded onto charter buses taking them all to one hotel with a pool and restaurant. breakfast and dinner are taken at the hotel. during the day, they go on the bus as a group to scenic sights where portions are reserved for specific tours at specific times, stopping on one restaurant for lunch that the government has designated for charter tours. they make additional stops at locations with reserved times for tours only - factory outlets, temples, luxury item shops, duty-free shops, etc. in the evenings, they either stay in the hotel, or go out as a group to designated bubble-bars or bubble-beaches or ride on authorized bubble-boats. at the end of the tour, they get tested again at departure, and fly home in their charter aeroplane. for those that don't understand, it's just back to the same-same package tour with added testing.
