The Foreign Business Commission late last month granted licences for 20 foreign businesses to operate in Thailand.

Vuttikrai Leewiraphan, Department of Business Development director-general, said the 20 businesses had invested a total of Bt442 million in Thailand and employed 1,574 Thai workers. Most of the businesses are from Japan, the Netherlands and Hong Kong.

They invested in a range of industries, from the service sector to wholesale and retail.

The commission granted licences to 112 foreign businesses from January to May, up 35 per cent year on year, and investing a total of Bt3.7 billion.
