BANGKOK(NNT)-The Department of Health has stressed fitness centers must continue enforcing COVID-19 precautionary measures and screen customers for symptoms, while personal trainers are required to wear a face mask at all times.

The Department of Health’s Director General Dr Panpimol Wipulakorn, has reminded gyms and fitness centers to strictly enforce hygiene and other precautionary measures to prevent COVID-19 transmission.

Her remarks were made after an inspection of fitness centers’ compliance with disease control guidelines, following their reopening.

Each fitness center must set up an entry screening point for customers, while personal trainers and staff must wear face masks at all times.

Exercise equipment and spaces must be arranged to allow customers to maintain at least 1-2 meters distance from each other, with capacity limits enforced to prevent crowding. Equipment and toilets must be cleaned at least every two hours.

Customers must log their visits by checking in and out on the Thai Chana platform, and are encouraged to wear their face mask. Customers can take off their mask while exercising so they can breathe properly, but should refrain from talking closely to other people, and refrain from being in any crowded area.

The Department of Health continues to encourage the general public to exercise regularly to improve their health and immune system, while fully complying with the precautionary measures.

Doable, but arranging the equipment could be a big issue. A lot of gyms didn't plan for this (who did) and the machines and stations are pretty close together. Not a lot of extra space to be had.

Agree and I guess in many cases the only way to do it properly, if they want to, would be to tape off machines to allow the required distancing.

Everything that comes out of this guys mouth is not in the real world. Anyone who uses a gym will know that you cannot exercise safely wearing a mask its dangerous. Most gyms naturally have social distancing with equipment 1 meter apart anyway. I have been attending my gym since it reopened 2 weeks ago. Temperature taken on entry and sign in via the book. The Thai Chana web application is a waste of time. The Morchana phone app is much better but you need to leave bluetooth on all the time which drains battery or its not effective. With regards to cleaning the equipment, my gym has always provided disinfectant cleaner for cleaning after every use, so nothing new there.

It did say trainers and staff. I did not read that clients need to wear masks.

Distancing is one issue. But what about aircon filters?

True, not all gyms have air con though. IMine is fans only. I presume they mean customers as well
