Baby Snake ID

This morning the peaceful quiet Sunday was shattered by a very loud inhuman screech coming from the shower room. 

 

The wife had spotted a small baby snake on the tiled floor and had freaked out. 

 

He was a cute little fella with very distinctive markings on his head, about 4in long and thinner than a pencil. The blue background is one of those water scoops you have in the toilet and to give an idea of his scale the the round plastic molding in the picture is the about the size of a 5bt coin.

The markings on the head though similar are not the same and the body and tail markings are different. I also did not notice any orange or red on the underside of the body.

 

Big question, is it dangerous?

Oligodon seems to be the group and 77 types with different colors and markings so suspect post 3 is correct and they are egg eaters and not a danger (although bite could bleed more than normal).

I did have a look through the "Thailand Snakes" book but could not see "my snake" 

 

With 77 different types and color markings it does seem a possibility that its a Kukri Snake, but a definite identification would be nice and set the wife's mind at rest, and mine, that we don't have a nest of dangerous babies slithering in our roof space.

Also you only have a baby and expect markings and colors change over time.  Go find mama.  ????

Erm!  It would not be polite to disturb mama, she'll be very busy taking care of all the other little ones, so think I'll just leave her alone

No its definitely a kukri  snake looks  more like the russels kukri or  banded  kukri, can  bite  rear  fanged not dangerous,  you wont die. Dont kill it

No I didn't kill it.

 

I tossed gently it over the tall cement block wall at the back of our plot that has some unused land and perfect place for it to live a long and happy life with little chance of it coming back

Snakes don't really have nests..most species like this lay eggs and then abandon them..like sea turtle nests.   Once the young hatch they disperse.  ....and they don't stay in the same place long...they don't have a regular home base. Doubt it will return to the OPs house....nothing for it to eat inside the house...and snakes avoid areas with human disturbance...this one looks like a hatchling that accidently slithered into the house.

Thanks....... Good to know I shall rest easy now   

 

When I carried him to put over the wall it was in the plastic bowl and he could not see where he was going, so unless he has homing pigeon instincts doubt he'll know the way back  

 

Unless his little brothers and sisters are calling out their missing adventurous sibling, but even then he won't be able to get over the high cement block wall  Ha! Ha!
