Popular Post MobileContent
“I have spoken with the ambassadors of Singapore, New Zealand, China and South Korea. We have to see which nationalities Thais are happy to welcome, as well as consider the state of the economy and people’s livelihoods,” the minister said. Ambassadors have nothing to do with a Travel Bubble and South Korea & Singapore, NZ, Australia might think of joining together but so far Thailand is no part of it. Looks to me Thailand is left alone and not part of any travel corridor. China is seeing another wave in Beijing so the only corridor with Thailand would be neighboring countries for a start.
spidermike007
Thailand has good reason to be choosy about international tourism. The infections still rage around the world, and Thailand cannot afford another economic shutdown. Nobody knows what the consequences of that could be, but I would guess a five year long economic depression is a possibility. Europeans and Americans are going to be the most radioactive people on the planet for the next year or two. So, all of that makes sense. What does not make any sense to me, is why can Thailand be so choosy about selecting tourists who visit, and so nonchalant about choosing ministers to lead the government? If they searched for five years, they could not have possibly found someone less qualified for his position than Anutin. Same applies to Pipat for Tourism Minister. What gives? Expat Tom
I am now positive that this country is run by idiots. Where do they think that the WUHAN CORONAVIRUS CAME FROM? Last that I checked, WUHAN is a city in CHINA. There can be little doubt that this country will become a vassal state to China. Just as Thailand was on the wrong side in WWII, they are again choosing the wrong side.

Looks to me Thailand is left alone and not part of any travel corridor. China is seeing another wave in Beijing so the only corridor with Thailand would be neighboring countries for a start. The goons in charge of tourism here wish it was that simple. It is also about nations choosing which country THEY want to visit. Thailand is more or less stuck with India and China, as their primary tourists targets. And the low and lower middle income tourists from those nations were the hardest hit by both covid and the economic shutdowns. I estimate maybe 1-2 million more international tourists will arrive here, for the balance of the year 2020. You have alienated all tourists but Indians and Chinese. Most Westerners are not coming here anymore for a dozen very good reasons. You insulted us. You demeaned us. You accused us of being evil, and you accused us of being criminals. You mounted campaigns touting us as bad for the nation. You demonstrated deplorable amounts of racism and xenophobia, and fear of the outside world. And now you want us to come back? Really? How soon you forget. Sorry, but we have not forgotten what was done and said. There are too many alternatives now, and they are not only trying harder, they actually have competent people in charge! Surprise! When the world is ready to travel again, my guess is that the majority will pass on Thailand. Sorry to say, but the high spending tourists are lost for good. They WILL NOT come back to Thailand, for a dozen different reasons. And places like Pattaya, Phuket and Samui will continue to go downhill. So, the goons at the TAT continue to pursue ever higher numbers, regardless of the noxious air, unbelievable congestion on the roads, punitive luxury taxes that discourage wealthy visitors who love to shop, and woeful immigration service at the airports. 3

Dustdevil
I imagine Thailand will be even more attractive to the Chinese hordes of nouveau-lower-middle class: it will be less crowded without farangs. If westerners are not welcome, let's stop trading goods and services with Thailand as well. Let them become a vassal state of China--who cares? Let China extend them loans they can't repay so China can take ownership of strategic properties like Swampy. 1
The Barmbeker
Is this moron completely out of hus mind? If Thailand doesn't find a way to open up their travel industry TO EVERYBODY and FAST, the consequences will be dire! Unless, of course, you think that Chinese- group business will be so damn great, that you get all the hotels and bars and restaurants back online, only with those! bluemoonpattaya
So on returning to Thailand, if you were to go to China first for example. And stop there for 14 days, then would you be allowed to enter Thailand ?
RedReding
How is the nationality relevant anyway ? I'm Swiss and haven't been in Switzerland or Europe since August 2019, been only in Laos (where I'm now) as well as in Thailand since September last year... Does it mean that they'll filter nationalities instead of the actual country you've been to and coming from since the outbreak ? Surely not. Rob3016
instead of restricting people, by country how about permitting people by clear tests....for example I could get a covid -19 test 2 weeks prior to departure, and then 5 days prior to departure and immediately upon arrival put me in quarantine until the results come back.... Constantly growing, in the heart of the CCP, coming out of nowhere, after draconian lockdowns, and far away from the original outbreak. I’d say that is severe, showing that not even the CCP can eradicate the virus. Well, at least the CCP can try to rewrite history again, like they try with the Tiananmen Square incident (https://www.britannica.com/event/Tiananmen-Square-incident). You’re in China right?
