SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korea's army is ready to take action if defector groups push ahead with their campaign to send propaganda leaflets into North Korea, state media said on Tuesday, in the latest warning of retaliatory measures.

Buri Ram abbot allegedly kills pregnant ex-girlfriend in a fit of jealous rage

Hin Lek Fai police in Buri Ram’s Kumeuang district arrested Um (last name withheld), aged 57, an abbot of a temple in the district, for allegedly murdering his 33-year-old former girlfriend who is eight months pregnant. Police also seized a 60cm machete from Um that was used as the murder weapon.

4 flights arranged to bring 690 Thais home from Egypt

Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha has ordered relevant agencies to provide full assistance to students and Thais in Egypt, after some have contracted Covid-19, while the government has coordinated a team of doctors and embassy officials to take care of those infected, Narumon Pinyosinwat, spokeswoman for the Prime Minister’s Office, said today (June 16).

Most of Pattaya’s 200 or so Here’s the Rub businesses recently reopened in town, only to discover that business is thin on the ground. Eggz Benedict, the transvestite cabaret artist who is currently unemployed but helping out at the Queen for a Day Spa, said, “The problem is that the only foreigners still here are pensioners who prefer to fall asleep in the massage chair rather than pay attention to what’s going on.”

Thailand approves $722 million domestic tourism stimulus as virus hits global travel

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand's cabinet approved on Tuesday a domestic tourism package worth 22.4 billion baht ($722.35 million) to revitalise a key sector hit by the coronavirus pandemic, an official said.

Cabinet gives green light to Bt22bn domestic tourism packages

The Cabinet on Tuesday (June 16) approved three packages to stimulate domestic tourism after the lockdown, with a whopping budget of Bt22 billion. Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has handed the task of organising the stimulus scheme to the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB). He warned that measures taken must be transparent, as fears grow that the huge budget could give rise to corruption.

Farms in North, South expected to brim over with fruit this year

(Reuters) - Most Americans do not trust social media companies to make the right decisions about what should be allowed on their platforms, but trust the government even less to make those choices, according to a poll released on Tuesday by Gallup and the Knight Foundation.
