Intra-Schengen (w/o Spain and Portugal) travel is allowed since last Monday. No infection spike so far.

 

When surrounding countries have more or less the same infection rates closed or open borders make no difference in health risk, but a huge in economic damage.

True. Perhaps I should have pointed out that it would not be with your preferred airline. I also was flying to Oz late march and Jetstar cancelled flight. Since then there are flights. My direct normal flight is under 9 hours. The ones I could of taken involve 17 hours+.

Point is most people can get home.

So, reading some of the responses to this thread, being married to a Thai, and wishing to return to Thailand, I have to contact the Thai embassy directly and they will tell me the procedure to get back, or at least apply to get back?  Their website didn't contain any helpful info....

Honestly I'd open it up like it was. If your sick stay home use normal precautions. I'm 62 yo not afraid of this virus in the least and I was in Bangkok for 17 days in March and have never felt better. What happened to the flu and how many people die yearly from it. More than cv for sure. This virus is being played

They have tried to shut down walking street and bars for years. They will use this plandemic to drive the nail in the coffin. There won't be any bars left, no more freelancers. 100% agreed. I said this back in March . Corona is the excuse the government have been waiting for. Now then bars will close and it won’t be there fault , it will be covid’s.

Don't forget that if you obtain your VISA too early, it may run out too quickly. In my case, as a U.S. passport holder, I can obtain the standard 90 day Non-Immigrant O based upon marriage to my Thai wife. But the moment they put that approval stamp in your passport the clock starts ticking. Let's say you get your VISA back in the mail from the consulate at the end of July, then the international flight finally opens up the first of October, you now only have 30 days left on your VISA.

I can tell you that it does hit very hard , since i know multiple people who died from it ( 4 far relatives of me ) , and a few who needed to be hospitalised on ICU . Possibly this explains why, in Pattaya, I keep seeing extremely pale skinned people who do not look as though they have been here for over 3 months. Not very many but I do keep seeing them.

You are all dreaming.  Only ones coming into Thailand from abroad are repatriated Thais, those with special dispensation such as WP, Diplomats and all are quarantined.  Not many have returned here yet, just Primarily repatriated Thais. The majority of those flights are carrying commerce as well but not tourists.  The pale skinned folks you are probably seeing are those from inside Thailand who are Domestic Travelers and that is it.  You folks need to look at the CAAT website for more info.   Many of those flights are also taking people back to their own countries from here in Thailand.  You can leave, but only a few can return if they meet certain criteria.  Nothing sinister in my post either and not a fearmonger.

I am not dreaming, I keep seeing pale-skinned people, just saw one half an hour ago. It puzzles me that's all. I did not take the other post seriously, I was querying it.

I can see your view as domestic travelers coming from within Bangkok, or other Area's who do not get out much would be seen as something new to many and pale skinned. Sorry if I read into your post regarding the belief that travelers are still flying in on the flights arriving.  My post adding that there was nothin sinister in it, was to point out that what is truly occurring with the flights is as I put it, and that the government is not sneaking foreign tourists into the country or letting them arrive as I have been bashed with before by others who believe things are afoot.  That is all.  Enjoy your day @rott

People commenting that there was enough notice to get back have no idea. Mrs R was due to come to Saudi in March to renew her residence visa, parking the kids with family friends for 10 days. Four days before her flight, Saudi closed its borders with No NOTICE, literally turning planes around on the tarmac with only Saudi nationals allowed to disembark. If her ticket had been a week earlier, the kids would have been stranded without a parent for God knows how long. As it is I've resigned myself to not seeing any of them again this year. 

 

I don't understand posters who seem to gloat at others misfortune. And what was anyone supposed to do? At the time flights were suspended, nobody had any idea how long it would last. After all, China had got the virus under control in a month or so. So not only did some of us have responsibilities at work that in all conscience couldn't just be abandoned overnight  we'd have also looked pretty stupid to have thrown up our family's livelihood only to find the flights reopening a few weeks later.

 

But I suppose some people are so lucky as to never have had responsibilities, remaining, in effect, big children. It would explain some of the rather facile and petty comments in this thread.

How much I despise those spineless wannabe pretenders not being able to make a decision!

 

Every food stall owner need to make more precise decisions every day and those big bananas have shi x in their trousers.

 

Easy: everybody travelling to Thailand need to make a test and stay in quarantine until test results are available - trust maximum 3 days.

 

Everybody who not observe the quarantine will directly walk into jail for 4 weeks and be will deported and banned afterwards.

 

Problem solved.

I have a friend who is hopeful that some flight will resume to Thailand by November.

  I do hope that at least a few will be flying in some determined tourists to the

Asian tropics. My friend says he will fly via Vietnam and then do the Asian domestic

flight to get to BKK or some other brave Thai airport.  I will see everyone next
