As the government mulls plans for the return of tourists, they are planning on allowing some business travelers, those with work permits, teachers and international school students.   Which of the options best best describes your opinion on the issue?

Too many hoops to jump through. I think the 800k in the bank should be taken into account for the non O holders instead of this $100,000 insurance.

I can't believe this is the government looking for approval. Or is it?

58 people died, is there a site with statistics about their age, gender, chronic diseases they had before entering the hospital ?

Spain has dropped the 14 day quarantine period and France, Germany, Greece and Italy are in talks with U.K. Officials, Thailand can’t keep the 14 Day Quarantine forever or the $100k insurance, conduct a poll where Tourist go where people are living on the streets and depending on food handouts, I think you will find that the answer is yes allow the Tourist back. The government don’t care about these workers and are only thinking of their health not the well beings of the people employed in the Tourist Industry.

Yes ,The expats Working/bringing/spending  big Money in Thailand  and Investing in Land/Houses and Vehicles should be aloud back in the country Same as the Thai people /workers/holidayers.

This should be on the same basis as Before Not with All the extra Money /Ripoffs.  :wai:

these 'teachers' especially from high infection countries should be denied, unless the Thais need to be taught how passing covid onto kids could kill their parents - just not worth it imo...

How could it be? And only a small number of expats use the 400/800k in bank.

When I wanted to come and stay in Thailand about 14 years ago and was told I would need 400.000 or 800,000 Bt in my bank account, although I could easily afford it, I would not have stayed, and just went somewhere else.

PATTAYA 46 "And only a small number of expats use the 400/800k in bank."

A couple of questions

A) How many is a small number of expats use the 400/800k in the bank?

B) where is information of such available to teh general public?

What you mean is they will do what they think is best for themselves.

Don't think there is any page with all these data. But some embassies publishes yearly statistics. Mine (France) shows that majority of expats are on Work Permit. The 400/800k method is for married/retirees only; about 1/3 of French expats. Not many expats must use this money-in-the bank method if they are not from USA/UK/AU, as the embassy letter method is usually a lot easier, and even those from USA/UK/AU may prefer the monthly-transfer method as many don't like the idea of a "big" amount of money blocked in a Thai bank. All that make me think than only a small part of expats may use the 400/800k method...

Clearly not - because shutting down the country will have far greater long term impact on the Health of the Nation than the 58 reported Covid-19 deaths - Think loss of jobs, increase in crime, suicides....

  • Popular Post

The only common sense approach I can see is to open the country back up with track and trace measures employed.

Every arrival gets a Covid-19 test and has to register their phone / e-mail and address.

The have to remain at their address until their test results are confirmed.

If Covid-19 free - they can go about their business as normal.

If positive, they are required to self isolate for 14 days.

Some will of course break any regulations provided. If caught there should be significant penalties.

The economy can return while the objectives of not seeing significant increases in the virus numbers met.

At the moment it seems the objectives are to eradicate the virus within Thailand, 58 deaths from Covid-19, 8000+ road deaths (so far this year) - the priorities are way off track.

I had the money but I wouldn't show them.

And where was the other place you chose to go possum1931, when you didn't want to show them that you could afforded to live here ----- as after nearly 23 thousand posts about Thailand...most people probably assume you are here.....:w00t:

An illogical and unfair comparison.

The correct hindsight comparison to assess would be the cost of shutting down the country measured against the cost to the nation of the Covid deaths that would have emerged had the country not been shut down.

I have no data to make that call either

The hotel isolation and associated mandatory costs have 'SCAM' written all over it..

If the wife and I were outside Thailand and we returned now, we have our own home to go to self isolate if required. Why would we want to pay 100k for the privilege.

Current news today. Big sport in AU is aussie rules football. An Irish player for one of the team's recently returned from o/s.

Required set rules to follow. Did not conform. Went visiting friends etc. Now has tested positive. That was from transmission in AU. Continued training with team mates.

Self isolation is a joke.

My Thai wife , her son and l have been stuck out of Thailand now for 3 1/2 months. Plenty of time to think and plan for the future. We are in no hurry to return and when we do it will be to sell everything and leave permanently. Country run by a regime of dinosaurs. Our money will be spent where we are appreciated and valued. The regime has very effectively turned many Thais against non Asian foreigners.

Agreed, thats a solid counter argument.

Unfortunately there will never be any data to support ‘what may have happened’ should Thailand not have shut down. Perhaps there would have been thousands or tens of thousands of deaths - this is a debate which will rage on for decade or more as the crippled economy recovers.
