Tourists banned from first wave of ‘travel bubbles’, says Anutin

The “travel bubble” scheme will open first to business groups and international-school teachers who can be easily tracked, not general tourists, said Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul on Friday (June 19).

He was speaking after meeting with Japanese ambassador Nashida Kazuya. Japan is among the countries deemed at low risk for Covid-19 contagion that are being considered for the “travel bubbles”.

About 20,000 foreign businesspeople, Thai work permit holders, and international-school students and teachers have registered to return to Thailand, according to the government’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration.

Meanwhile, Anutin said he was ready to be injected with a prototype vaccine for Covid-19 as part of medical trials. Several Thai research programmes are currently seeking a vaccine for the virus.

"who can be easily tracked" sounds sinister, tracking wristbands possibly.

The one & only outspoken Health minister Anutin Charnvirakul whose discriminatory remark on Western tourists, saying that they are “dirty” and more likely to spread coronavirus than Asians caused a ruffle of feathers....I disagree with his, dirty, remark but sadly there are a lot of European countries that are classed as virus high risk, my country, the once Great Britain, being at the very top of the list!

We all knew that tourists would be at bottom of list. Perhaps those with marriage or retirement etc next added to list. Poblem is that by that time their extension/reentry permit most likely expired. Meaning many would require tourist visa

This could easily change when other members of the Govt ask genius Anutin where he thinks Thailand gets its money from...... (But they are dirty!)

Yours sincerely

Good for him.  A thinking man, would not be so hasty to jump in, but Stadtler supports him 100 percent.  Take the jab twice!

Guess what...if China opened tomorrow and would let their people travel again, Thailand would create a "chinese travel bubble" within a few days.

Anyway...it`s their country...so let them do what they want. However, I hope no one will help them, when they realize how huge they have damaged their economy! European countries were forced to reopen, as they saw what a disaster it would have been for the intra-EU tourism sector without a summer travel peak-season. But that`s the Thai mentality...they always react, never act proactively. Covid 19 was limited here for whatever miraculous reasons, but surely not because the government reacted pro-actively.

That won`t work with the economy...once damaged on the long-term, it will take ages to recover. Stuff like the domestic travel stimulus package is just as effective as when they gave away the shopping vouchers and announced proudly that it boosted the economy.

Amazing Trusted Thailand of course! Have you not heard, there is no prostitution, no pollution, no corruption and that honey of them all - no responsibility!

I doubt very much that the higher ranks of the Thai gov't have any major interest in white foreigners and their marriages to Thai women-let alone the children from such marriages.

I don't think that they are on the "urgent" list as,strangely enough, they are rarely commented upon by the Big Wigs..

To be honest, having not seen my wife for 15 weeks, I would happily do 'home quarantine' with a tracker to prove my whereabouts.

Hardly going to make up the numbers for lost tourists though. Unless the big boys are included it's over for ages, UK, USA, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, China, South Korea and Japan are not clean from covid-19

New Zealand for instance still has a travel ban. Australia too. So even if Thailand allows them they cannot come. I think it is not that easy.

Still has the ban because the bubbles haven't been negotiated, the whole point of travel bubbles is that they are not unilateral. They are based on bilateral or multilateral agreements. So not that easy because nations need to negotiate and agree to them, but certainly can do them if they desire to.

I said for starters. It also enables the beginning of some kind of normalcy and enables people who got trapped in certain places to move and do things they need to do for their lives.

Not clean but have it under control. These two might be included in a way that has more stringent requirements.

Your thinking with a western brain, they have their own agenda in Thailand and it's probably not what we want.

I get this awful feeling that if we in the UK get a vaccine, we will be forced also to take a Thai one - expensively

I didn't know they could test the prototype vaccine on Jack r ses.

These two countries only come for go go bars, karaoke and soapy massages, which are not open. They either need mass tourism form China or western countries, both are no goes.

Yes, I see them now. NZ declared the pandemic over earlier. So no international travel until all nations have 0 cases? 1 case is a deal breaker? Wait for a vaccine that may never come?  Seems crazy to me.

It's a crazy world of trying to be a covid free country or accept covid with minimizing the deaths. NZ, Aus and Thai are going the covid free route, big mistake I think.
