Stateless Thai

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a question about a Thai woman who was not registered at birth, so she has no birth certificate or id she is now 41 years old.
She was abandoned at birth and the couple she grew up with are both dead. I read about a new law making it easier to get registered.

https://thethaiger.com/news/national/stateless-thais-can-now-apply-for-birth-certificates-and-thai-id

If I want to help her get a Thai id how do I do this. Can anyone recommend a good law firm that specialise in human rights that can help. Thanks for any information you can give me. //Daniel

How did she get through school with no id?

Same question, but put a different way.....

What school did she attend?

Obtaining any records would help you.

Also any medical records from her childhood.

What village did she grow up in?

The head of the village has a lot of pull in such matters, and can help for sure.

She never really went to school and don't know were she was born her adopted parents moved to Chon buri when she was about 5-6 and her first memory are from there. When she was 19 they sold here to a thai man and they had 2 children who are now 20 and 14 who are registered thai. When he died she met another man and they had one child who is now 8 he's still alive.

As she’s not applying for an overseas visa, I’ll move this thread to the Thai forum.

If she has children that are registered Thai, then she must surely be present on their registration?

Ive come across, and heard stories of Thais who aren't registered before, and in all cases, they have received an ID card.

In one case that I'm familiar with, the head of the village played a big hand in it.

I think your lady friend has to come up with some details of her childhood /youth in order for you to help her.

Its not uncommon for Thais to seek registration in retrospect, and every ampur will have a procedure for dealing with such matters.

Find the Children's birth certificates.  She will be listed as the mother and her Identification number also listed on it in Box 2.2, with box 2.3 showing her age at the birth of the child, Box 2.4 showing her nationality, and box 2.5 showing her actual birth location province.  If those boxes are blank then there is a bigger problem.  Her nationality should also be located in the box next to her birth province.
