Speculation about after July 31st

Featured Replies

I was on a METV before COVID and waiting it out until July 31st when I need to leave the country. The visa is expired since mid-June and my flight on Eva back to the US was canceled due to Taiwan border closures.

My plan was to go back home on July 7th but the US is probably one of the worst places in the world to be right now so I feel like I should try to stay longer is Thailand if at all possible.

What options do people speculate may exist? I.e.:

- Any hope getting a 30 day/2000 baht extension even though the visa expired?

- May there be any land borders I could use to get a 30 days stamp? I can do 2 per calendar year I believe. Flying in-out would be fine also but I want to avoid air travel.

Speculating on this forum just gives you a headache,  i remember before they announced the amnesty, this forum was full debate some of it nonesense, stick to the facts .

If the Thai government give us the option to get tourist visas, where would it be? it would have to be local immigration because otherwise embassies or chang wattana would be overrun and all this social distancing wouldn't exist. So thats something im sure is being debated. One thing for sure is that the borders and flights are more or less the same as when they announced the amnesty so borders need to open for anyone to be able to do anything. At the moment we can't even leave to get a visa or go to a neighbouring country, this is the problem atm.

Just watch the news bangkok post, thethaiger.com, khaosod  english and stick to official sources , because at the minute there are no facts so why speculate, its a waste of time and stress and energy.

No sense to speculate because no one knows anything.  But as of right now, I'd say it would likely be extended because we're seeing spikes in cases and I don't see any borders opening before September.  However, I think it's best to assume no extension will be given so you can make plans.  If it's not extended, they'll need a plan because you can't have every single tourist leaving on the same day.

speculation only creates rumours and bickering ....

Excellent point. According a poster in another thread, several law firms have the feeling the amnesty will be extended for 1-2 more months, as I've been saying for a while, but this won't be confirmed either way for several weeks. Best is to make 3 plans: plan A is to leave end of next month (fly home) plan B is to hope the amnesty gets extended and keep staying. Plan C is to seek an extension in-country that you may be eligible for.

I didn't hear about the law firms before, but I have to agree with that feeling.  It makes the most sense.  Best for everyone.  Good for tourists and their safety and good for Thailand to keep the remaining tourists they have because none of really coming for some time.  I feel it'll be extended, but like I said, it's probably best to assume it won't be.  Always have a plan B.

This sounds correct to me but it means I do need to go ahead and buy a plane ticket sooner than later. My fear is they tell me I need to leave in 7 days and I have no ticket home.
