BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand on Wednesday confirmed two new coronavirus cases, both of which were imported from abroad, marking 37 successive days without domestic transmission.

The new cases were Thai nationals returning from Kuwait and were found in state quarantine, said Taweesin Wisanuyothin, spokesman for the government's COVID-19 task force.

The coronavirus has infected 3,173 people in Thailand, of which 3,059 patients have recovered. There have been 58 deaths so far, but none for almost one month.

Two new Covid-19 cases in state quarantine

By The Nation

There were two new cases of Covid-19 in state quarantine over a 24-hour period, the government’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), reported on Monday (July 1).

The two men, aged 47 and 48, had returned from Kuwait and tested positive on the date of their arrival (June 29) after showing symptoms, such as cough and fever, CCSA spokesman Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin said.

Meanwhile, three patients retirned home after fully recovery.

As of July 1, the total number of confirmed cases in the country stood at 3,173 (2,444 domestic cases and 236 in state quarantine) -- 56 are under treatment, 3,059 have recovered and been discharged, and there have been 58 deaths.

Globally, the total number of confirmed cases stood at 10.5 million, up by 170,000 on Tuesday, 5.7 million have recovered while deaths have exceeded 510,000. Meanwhile, Thailand improved its ranking to 96th on the list of countries with the most number of cases.

An image of hysterical laughter at yet another announcement that has dubious association with reality is very much connected to the topic of a government statement re Covid status.!

The small bars here in my neighborhood (never seen a foreigner there) opened a few weeks ago already, including the girls. Never saw face masks or social distancing there.

The virus is never going to disappear completely, just like all the other viruses that have caused pandemics in the past.  But life has got to get back to normal, even if it's a "new normal".
