Just experienced similar and come to the forum to see if it’s being discussed. I opened a Bangkok Bank account in December 2018 using a certified copy of my UK passport (certified at embassy), no issue being on a visa exempt entry. Note, I do not live in Thailand but married and have a son. I always enter on visa exempt because only ever stay a few days, 3 weeks max at Christmas. I just visited the Nana branch to increase my daily limits (app said needed to go to bank). The lady looked in my passport and said because I didn’t have a long stay visa, I won’t be able to renew the bank book when full or get a new atm card when current one expires in 2028. She helped me increase the limits though. “You have two option Mr, get visa or close account na” “I don’t need a visa, I don’t live or work here” “Mr, new bank policy this month na, maybe change again later na” All said whilst laughing through her mask lol. I was a bit annoyed and didn’t ask about what visa is acceptable (I.e. is DTV ok). She didn’t close my account on me but looks like I have it for a couple more years
