"Crime explosion in Thailand" claims Thai media as hundreds of suspects arrested guns/grenades/ammo seized in the east

Thai media 77kaoded claimed that there had been a massive upsurge in serious crime in Thailand recently.

Criminals were using war weapons, engaging in gunfights with police and flagrantly flouting the law in an orgy of violence against people and property resulting in injury and death, they said.

Their claims were in a story about a 3rd - 9th July crackdown on weapons and gun toting criminals in Region 2 in the east of Thailand.

Eight provinces were targeted in raids ordered by the Royal Thai Police. They were in Chonburi, Chachoengsao, Rayong, Prachinburi, Chanthaburi, Trat, Nakhon Nayok, Rayong and Sa Kaeo.

A total of 291 suspects were arrested.

Some 334 guns were seized - 292 were unregistered, 42 were registered.

A total of 1,356 rounds of ammunition were seized along with five grenades.

The media provided no evidence at all for their crime explosion claim. They quoted no police officers in their story either, notes Thaivisa.

Just a story to help in justifying the continued lockdown of the country, and show that the police and military are firmly on top of things.

As far as i concern let the police crack the skulls of any criminals in the land and so far from where i stand they do a good job at it, most of the times...

More fake news.

Those guns looked prime to be exported and sold for profit.

Some of them even  look like muskats.

I might be wrong, but i very much doubt a Thai (or anyone) would drag those around for a fight, not when theres a multitude of other smaller and more effective options around.

On the plus side it seems criminals are registering say 14% of all their weapons !

Unemployment and crime go hand in hand. Expect more of it.

Too many people have guns in Thailand - ok, ok, Americans would deny - and the murder rate with guns is dramatic - Americans would deny again.

I'm American and what is your problem? This is about Thailand, not America. Or maybe you would deny that. Jesus, plenty of other posts to attack America in... and I would join in perhaps

The only explosion will be the tummies if that line up photo is any indication. And talking of old muzzle loaders, that seems to be what most of the guns are - both more of a danger to their owners than any target.

The chap at the right rear of the line op looks a real lean, mean, steely eyed dealer of death though! Must have been first dibs at the dressing up box!

If you are that worried about being recognised that you have to wear a balaclava under your tin hat, why not just stand a couple of paces off and avoid being in the photo?

Presumably he is there to stop anyone from pinching these weapons - standing there like a figure 11 target rather guarantees that any would be thief will simply slot him before helping himself to the goodies.

There's been a crime explosion. It started somewhere around the time when the ruling class assumed it's current position.

All going down hill here at a faster rate than a covid infected cheetah wearing a couple of pairs of nike airs by the look that hardware ????

Who would dare attempt to swipe the goods under the noses of the all knowing, ever watchful 'chiefs' taking credit for all the hard work?

Looking at the way that the "chief" in the middle is holding his script, it would take him a couple of minutes to find his "distance glasses" before he would be able to react!

I think this is a case of the bird flying in ever decreasing circles until it flies you know where. The lockdowns are causing massive loss of incomes and ensuing poverty, the poor are then forced to resort to crime to make ends meet and feed their families, causing an increase in the number of police on the the prowl which will definitely cause an increase in public unrest and further downhill spiral. The ONLY solution to this problem is to hit the "Reset" button, in an effort to bring back as many tourists as possible. Let the money flow and allow nature to take it,s course ???? Chas. Darwin Jr.

And if I may ask: How many of these gun-toting criminals turned out to actually be police and/or army officers and/or public officials and/or other assorted bigwigs? After all, 42 of the weapons were registered.

It seems very unusual that common criminals would register their weapons for "engaging in gunfights with police and flagrantly flouting the law in an orgy of violence", as the article puts it.

I think that the poster is saying that although he thinks that Thailand has too many guns, Americans would say that is not the case. I think that he is treating Americans with the exceptionalism that Americans seem to crave. So even when he is trying to be nice by acknowledging your highly likely dissent from his opinion, you still want to be aggressive and say that he is attacking America. Hmmmmm

Aye.

An orgy at the all you can eat buffet seems more congruent to that promotion picture.

Nice muskets. Where I they taking those the battle of little big horn? Surprised there are no old-fashioned cannons in the photo.

When you've got nothing else to lose, you lose it.

i think these weapons from the American Civil War should be returned and placed in a museum.

wow...I was only worried about covid.
