Video: Police called after Egyptian soldiers allegedly refuse initial COVID-19 test

Police had to be called in after a group of Egyptian soldiers refused to be tested for coronavirus at a well known Rayong Hotel.

Channel 3 reported that a soldier had tested positive and it was known that he had left the hotel and been to various places including a department store.

Sathit Pitutecha of the Thai health department revealed that the Egyptian embassy had to be contacted after there was an initial refusal to be tested.

Even when the police came along with a large entourage of health personnel there was resistance, as evidenced in a video published by Channel 3.

The infected soldier was at the store between 11am and 3 pm and an inquiry is underway to determine where he exactly went and whom he came into contact with.

The video showed several police officers standing by as two men talked to a foreigner.

From listening to the video on full volume turned up, it sounds like the main Egyptian guy and the main Thai guy were talking in English, and that the Thai guy was trying to explain and get the Egyptian guy to understand just who they were trying to get tested... At least, as best as I could decipher it.

They're speaking English to him. They are extremely polite. They are extremely patient. A bunch of Thais? Oh those well dressed, well spoken, calm, considerate people concerned about the possibility there is a super spreader at large? I just don't get what you're looking at? A movie in your head?

My wife is going crazy about this & how the Government even let them get in.

We have done all the Government wanted us to & now they let us down because they "are big wigs"

General Prayut, get a grip the virus does not differentiate

What screening measures did you have in place for the US Generals visit ?

A baseball bat would do the talk - while even investors need to go to ASQ they let-in a bunch of whatever, who even refused to get tested while already infected. No need to be polite and kindly request: action speaks louder than words.

The doctor is dressed like he is dealing with an alien Ebola virus. The spokesperson looks like he is going to a business conference. Make up your minds folks. Either it is deadly serious, or it is just another flu bug.

Why. What did they do wrong.

Sounds like they refused to be tested, when they know one has got the virus already. If you do not think that´s wrong, I guess that´s up to you.

Quite the train wreck. It would be sad if they pizzed away their containment success just because of being unable to control their "VIP visitors".

Jesus, how is he a soldier? look at how short and fat he is. ????

Egyptian military must have low standards

The protocol for official visits like this is supposed to be that the visitors are tested on arrival; are taken in dedicated private cars from the airport to the hotel, to all meetings, and back to the airport; are accompanied by a Thai Government minder at all times; and do not go to any public places while in country.

That protocol WAS followed with the US Army Chief of Staff, even to the point of having press coverage of his arrival COVID test. It was apparently NOT followed for the Egyptian group, since it has been reported that they were not tested on arrival, did not have a minder, and walked around public shopping areas for several hours.

Why was he allowed to leave the Hotel? Why wasn't he in quarantine?

Beats me as to why a prat like that has no regard to himself and other peoples lives that he has now put at risk!

Why are they there and who let these imposters in. He looks like a blimp not a soldier lol. All these garbage countries of poor education and bad governments favored by the Thai army

Just being here there scum

Since no foreigners are allowed into Thailand, this surely was some army exercise of some sort. Therefore the blame lies entirely with the army, who appear to have no control over their guests. Prayuth should resign immediately. He failed the nation once again.
