President Xi stresses economic cooperation with Thailand

 

Chinese President Xi Jinping applauds during a conference to commemorate the 40th anniversary of China’s Reform and Opening Up policy at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, Tuesday.

 

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday stressed deepening economic and trade cooperation with Thailand and Singapore while continuing to jointly fight the pandemic with the two countries.

 

CGTN of China reported that Xi made the remarks in his separate talks on the phone with Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.

 

Xi told the two leaders that China wants to share its experiences in fighting COVID-19 and enhance cooperation in R&D of drugs and vaccines as guided by the principle of “a community of shared destiny.”

That's very jolly decent of him .. especially considering it originated from China in the first place ..

Bailout Thailand from what? Seen to the positive numbers compared to the negatives. Thailand has a very strong foundation in world economy.

Not saying I am positive to China, but we must deliver true information.

I would describe that foundation as strong but not very strong, the risk is that recovery takes much longer than imagined. The combination of loss of income/revenue plus enhanced and continued bailouts may result in increased government borrowings, that has the potential to erode much of that foundation. That will cause the baht to weaken and the cost of imports, oil and energy in particular to rise. More importantly, industry and supply chains will simply relocate to other locations where they can operate without restriction, at that point a bail out will be needed. Governments and entities such as World Bank, IMF, ADB and others can all see the potential for this and understand that it could easily reshape the geopolitical landscape, not just in Thailand but globally.

Last week there was the american delegation visiting Thailand , this week it is Xi who wants to deepen cooperation with Thailand ...

There is a conflict upcoming between the US and China . Chinas territorial expansion will not be tolerated by many countries any more , and the authoritarian way to handle it's internal affairs and even some multilateral relations is not well seen either ...

Thailand will probably try to take the best of all , that means it won't confront it's long time ' security partner ' , the US , and at the same time not risk losing it's ' business relations ' with the big brother China . Let's hope it finds a way to avoid the conflict ...

Yes, the US is in dire need of a major diversion... 

 

And Thailand should better avoid to be caught in the middle of this coming conflict, because it is not going to be pretty...

And we can imagine only too well what that "shared destiny" is going to be for the smaller nations of Southeast Asia: total dominance by China, delegating them to little more than client states. And Thailand already is on the best way to "attaining" just that.

 

If Mr. Prayuth thinks Thailand will ever be regarded by China as a level partner, he is dead wrong.

He got Thailand in his pocket already when CP Group leased Thailand... 

Now I know why the rice farmers around here lay in their hammocks dreaming of old Siam before the hords of Chinese arrived.  The 19th century was a free and easy time for the hords from the North to set up shop here.

As well as I agree with what you are writing, there is one question that must be posed. Thailand is Suoth East Asia´s second largest economy. They have not reached that level out of stupid decisions. Do you then think that they will be as stupid that they actuaölly reach that point this time?

It is not that difficult to be the second largest economy in a group mostly composed of economic midgets, such as Laos, Cambodia or Burma. 

 

Considering the more significant GDP per capita, Thailand stands far behind Malaysia, to say nothing of Singapore and Brunei. 

 

Thailand is at the same level as Mexico or Turkmenistan, suggesting that there is still room for improvement.

To judge a country on GDP per capita is only something that is made for beginners to the economy. There are so many factors that need to be taken into consideration to get a fair judgement, so that´s just a waste of time to discuss here. ???? 

 

However, I agree with you that Quatar is  very highly ranked, even when taking all other aspects into consideration.

The problem with such lists/rankings, is that those above the US are all relatively much smaller in total population, which gives them the advantage they enjoy. The US is indeed a rich country, would that that wealth were put to better uses.

Sugar coated words from a regime that could be equated to the Borg Collective from Star Trek pretty much. If I were the leaders of Thailand or Singapore then I'd be uncomfortable with this sort of wording. Many of the other places around here have willingly fallen and seems Thailand's elite is in the process of selling their country down the river to the Chinese monster. If the Thais are smart then they will play both sides, as they always have done, to keep some sort of independence ... but I'm not so sure this time, could be all over soon. This high speed train line could seal it and put them in the Chinese pocket for keeps along with the offers of loans/bailouts etc. I'd guess in 15 years there will be Chinese bases here and CCP soldiers running around doing stuff.
