Classic case of human overreaction.  Same stupidity in America when sales of Corona Beer tanked, due to Wuhan-19 virus fear.

Fake News.  Here's an excerpt from Snopes:

A number of major news outlets appear to have walked right into the trap. Because they did not understand that the original press release was walking a fine line between deeply misleading claims and outright lies, their articles have inadvertently fallen on the side of the lie. As a viral tweet by CNN put it, the survey supposedly found that 38 percent of Americans would not drink Corona, “because of the coronavirus.”

Seems crazy thais worrying about getting a virus that's killed 58 (yeah I don't believe it either) but are happy to travel on the roads to the hotel that has killed 7,000 of them

It's called capitalism. If anyone wants Thailand to become socialist, they should start a new political party, win the election, and change the entire political ethos.

That way, Thailand becomes just like the west and descends into a permanent chaos where PC reigns supreme, children have no idea of what gender they are, people protest about things they know nothing about, mind altering drugs become the norm, and millions prefer hand outs to working for a living.

I think you men 'guns' and not 'votes'.

Nobody cares about votes in Thailand, you can't win an election with votes here.

absolutely, the government clearly feel the loss of 20% of their GDP is a price worth paying for keeping thai people safe and protecting their health service. for thailand it is a binary decision, compared to other countries who are moving forward, risk assessing and slowly opening up in a controlled way.  which way will prove the most effective in protecting, restarting and maintaining economic growth only time will tell.

It's not even looking close to 20%, the estimate currently is 8.1% but that could change, 10% may be realistic. But let's not forget the government has a bail out program to the tune of 1.9 trill., that's money which if spent is counted towards GDP, it's swings and roundabouts with the numbers.

They have been scaring their own, mostly uneducated, people for months with "Thai Chana", check in/check out, phone numbers, swabs, alcohol gel by the hectolitre, quarantine everywhere and everyone now is just waiting for the Covit-19 flavoured ice cream.

Nobody ever came up with the question, what a total of eight Egyptian air force crews were transiting en route to China, where they did a one-day-visit. All, provided the media coverage was correct. Nobody queried the possibility, that the Egyptian(s) in question got infected at the shopping centre. Nobody ever queried the fact, that all "new" infections are imported mostly by air from other countries which would imply, that all those boarding points - where these flights originate - are all not doing their job of screening. Nobody asks questions and that is the beginning of the abyss!

Asking questions in Thailand can be dangerous.

The government now has to change stats, one new case of c19 discovered in Thailand, the count now has to restart from the didget 1

It might have used the same minibus the Huay Yai driver did!

I expressed my confidence that Pattaya is OK by doing Walking St last night... I feel unwell today but that is my own fault of over-indulgence.

Thank you for supporting the locals ????

Thai hotels don't want tourists.  I tried ten for a weekend trip to Bangkok.  Six were closed; the others wanted danger money for working - their prices were ludicrous.  It was cheaper to stay in London!  I eventually used airbnb.

Takes over an hour to drive from one place to the other.

So, did the Covid 19 take a bus to Pattaya, stay a few nights, and do some shopping.

Every town or city within 60 minutes drive of Pattaya could say the same thing. ????

Nonsense.

Yes and whistling at night will bring ghosts ????

It has long since become comical. I would put the beginning on the day the Health Minister was handing out masks in Bangkok (can't remember the month) and threatened to boot out any foreigners that wouldn't accept them.

Can we boot out all the Thai people I see not wearing a mask? Send them to the promise land of China ????

Let's see...hummm....40% occupancy rate and 30% cancellation on top of that....? Pretty bad...

Yeah a cough travels 30 miles! The covid19 has not infected a single local person for 40 days and the Thai people are terrified of catching it from Rayong if they visit Pattaya! TIT.

The average Thai hasn't any geological knowledge of their own country so I understand their reaction.

I thought it was having a tail light on your motorcycle that brought ghosts ?

Who made these reservations and when? Ting tong.

Maybe the thais or hotel and business owners will appreciate the farang who lives there now and spend money.Instead of trying to take them for every baht they can.The wet season is here now let see what happens next high season
