Prayut’s warning doesn’t faze youth groups planning to continue protests

Youth groups across the country have voiced their intention to continue holding anti-government protests, while Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has said they may be violating the law.

“This should not be happening. I won’t make comments now, but the three demands [House dissolution, rewriting of the Constitution and an end to threats against the public for the military to hold on to power] will be proposed in the House and a committee established to handle it,” Prayut said.

Political organisations along with the Student Union of Thailand and the Democracy Restoration Group have set up schedules for protests in different provinces. The schedule has been posted on social media, so interested people can join. The schedules are as follows:

North: Queen Chamdhevi Monument in Lamphun province on July 24 from 5pm; provincial public park in Phrae province on Wednesday (July 22) from 5pm; outside Nong Phai district office in Phetchabun on Wednesday from 5pm.

Northeast: Ratchadnusorn Park in Khon Kaen on July 23 from 5pm; the Thao Suranari Monument in Nakhon Ratchasima on July 29 from 5pm on July 29; the Fountain Roundabout in Udon Thani on July 24 from 5pm; Maha Sarakham University in Maha Sarakham province on Wednesday from 5pm; near the Palarnchai Swamp in Roi Et on August 2 at 5pm.

Central Region: Near Bueng Phra Ram in Ayutthaya on July 23 from 4pm; Sawan Park’s Gate 13 in Nakhon Sawan on July 29 from 5pm; in Ratchaburi on August 1 from 4pm; Bang Saen Walking Street in Chonburi province on Wednesday from 5pm; and Rangsit University in Bangkok on July 23 from 5pm.

South: Near Phra Phuttha Nirokhantrai Chaiwat Chaturathit Statue in Phatthalung on July 24 from 6pm.

Organising plenty of protests, that's what I like to see. The people do need a change in Thailand.

Nothing will change, the only good party was future forward the rest is all bad and in it for themselves. So without a good alternative nothing will change. Stupid junta for disbanding them.

Blood on the streets Rob that is the only way this lot will change, come to think of it I distinctly remember this being stated ad nauseam to you when you was going through your junta lover stage, still waiting for it but my view is still the same unfortunately.....

A very confusing comment. If nothing will change, how does that make the junta stupid?

Yes i loved part of what the junta did when i thought they would have been gone quickly. Now i see that they are as corrupt as the Taksin goverments (if not worse).

Problem is even if there is blood on the street without a party that is good like future forward to vote upon nothing will change. A corrupt Taksin party or a corrupt junta party. I mean without a 3rd good choice nothing will change.

Who said anything about votes, civil war doesn't need a vote and neither does living under a junta!!

Please no more but, but Taksin your side won that round and any semblance of democracy was quietly removed paving the way for where we are today...

Yes, you get the impression he's trying to say that the FF are gone so what's the point. Just accept the very naughty junta. Those darn scamps.

It won't just be Thailand, money is running out in lots of places around the world. Bulgaria was having anti government protests, plenty of other emerging economies that will be having protests soon.

I doubt whether very many of the participants in this movement will have been old enough to vote for Thaksin, or his sister.

I suspect that those of them that have voted almost certainly voted for Future Forward.

If the Junta falls ( and it won't step aside in the interests of fairness, that is as naive an expectation as imagining that the Junta only took power for very limited objectives over a short time!) then there is nothing to prevent Future Forward from reforming.

These protests are Future Forward, or the movement which grew out of it. Whilst Thaksin might regard them with a benevolent eye, he is not driving them.

No that is not what im saying that is what you make of it. Someone needs to be voted in to control the country after a revolution. How do you see it then.. revolution and then unelected rulers ?

My point is there need to be parties too that are honest and good otherwise there is no point in shedding blood if it is just to get an other corrupt government into power.

Not saying that future forward is driven by Thaksin. Point was that they should establish a party again. So after the junta is gone a good party can be voted in. I don't see it as a good thing to have an unelected government (again) in power.

I was thinking beyond the so called revolution (hope there wont be one or that if there is it wont be too bloody)

You’d have a interim caretaker government take over and a new constitution would be drawn up with input from the people. Checks and balances would be put into place as to make the whole thing as fair as possible. Kind of in the same way other countries have done it through history when the people have had to right the wrongs of their illegal governments, etc.

Oh, and the FF party members weren’t executed. They were kicked out by the junta for being genuine opposition. They’re still relatively active and ready to go.

hmmm ....  might be time to get the whip out Khun Prayut .... holding mass rallies or protest during an emergency decree is unlawful and illegal and may result in being arrested.

EXCITing at the very least. Im very happy to see masses around the world wake up to what Govern-Ment(e) really is and how it exploits the majority and enriches the few elite. I stand with and for change here...there..anywhere. It takes a great deal of courage to stand up especially in Thailand being its a Monarchy and its history. This is the start of a new direction ...here there everywhere. Its a GLOBAL movement. Out with the cronie governments!

I try to rally everyday to support the anti Prayut movement from my Swindon bedroom wishing the Thai protesters an instant result in their long overdue quest ????

Be very afraid Prayuth. The youth will no doubt be your undoing. Your army is despised by most. And so are you. The youth are the only hope this nation has of progressing, and moving forward.

That is precisely why you are living in a constant state of fear of them!

There is, of course, one factor in this equation that has changed dramatically.

And what’s the whip a euphemism for, Steven? Because last time you stated that snipers being deployed would be “making progress”.

Be careful what you wish for.

Steven100, are you suggesting Khun Prayut is a whippersnapper?

I didn't say anything about snipers .... you did !   Stop putting words in my posts that weren't mentioned by me. Anyway, when one starts ' cracking the whip '  it means one starts getting things going, action, moving.

I didn’t say you did say anything about snipers. I merely pointed out then when someone else did; you said it would be “making progress”.

The post is still there for everyone to see.
