Popular Post rooster59
Tourism industry expected to get Bt6.8-billion boost this weekend By THE NATION The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) said that the long holiday weekend from July 25 to 28 is expected to generate around Bt6.8 billion revenue for the tourism industry with hotel occupancy getting a 24 per cent boost. TAT Governor Yuthasak Supasorn said that people were expected to travel to nearby areas, not faraway cities. Moreover, they would travel in small groups, with family or friends, in their own cars. He added that the proportion of public-vehicle use would be lower than during the previous long weekend (July 4 to 7). The destinations most people want to visit include natural attractions, such as sea, mountain and waterfall. Yuthasak said that the government’s stimulus campaigns, local activities, as well as the free motorway price were factors in encouraging people to travel this weekend. According to a survey on social media channels, netizens made more mention of this long weekend than the previous one. Some had concerns about a Covid-19 case in Rayong announced last week. Popular Post andy72
well cmon its only natural Usually TAT makes prediction on spending and arrivals of foreigner tourism so they have just used the same creative imagination in dreaming up a number that Thai citizens will spend this weekend. If Thais have got 6.8 billion baht to spend this weekend Thailand does not need foreign tourism ever again Thailand finally found its long sought after high spending quality tourist, the holy grail of TATs dreams. every thai citizen must endevour to spend 100 baht on what is considered 'tourism' thats every man woman child/ bed ridden citizen /prisioner/army general/ Cinema outing and all cinemas really only showing Asian movies nothing significant from USA markets so basically the usual economic spending of the Thai population TAT has hijacked and now calling tourism.???? 11

But there are Millions of Office Workers who finance their lifestyles with Credit Cards. And now these people have a huge problem ! BUT there are much more middle class and upper-middle class people than you think! Most of them have more money/savings than the average retired expat here..even after months of Covdid. So plenty of people who still can afford to travel domestically (even more due to the stimulus) 3 3

sambum
As soon as I see "TAT" I know I'm in for a laugh (or cry!) I wonder where TAT Governor Yuthasak Supasorn got his crystal ball? Gypsy Rose Lee, or a pavement stall on Sukhumvit? And what a great picture to accompany the article - everything is crystal clear now! Most of the Thai people I know who travel for fun, have been working, to some degree, throughout. They have just been waiting for things to open up. But then, all of them also have credit cards. Unfortunately, those hardest hit are the people that aren't considered "tourist" types, at least not in terms of accommodations. Maybe a day trip from time to time. Popular Post fraggleRock
Thailand has by far the largest credit card debt in the whole of SE Asia, they live on credit here like nothing I’ve ever seen to show face... I thought Singapore was bad with people driving mercs, then going home to an HDB government flat sitting on plastic ikea chairs and only using a fan and eating msg fuelled noodles at the local hawker center... get real, Thailand is sinking in chronic debt and way before COVID 19 hoax popped along. Many, at least in the cities. The threshold is a 15k salary, if you earn at least so much you can get one. Getting 6 months of salary as credit seems to be no problem, getting two or three credit cards at different banks also not. So a Thai who earns 15k can quite easily get 200k+ THB credit line and simultaneously buy a car and a condo on finance. If this Thai now loses his job... 2 1

spidermike007
Some have enough to take short vacations. How anyone in this administration thinks they can predict the numbers based on a long weekend, is beyond comprehension. They simply make up a number and send out a bulletin. It means less than zero. Right now is a great time to travel around Thailand. Bargains galore.
