snoop1130
Concertgoers, foreign troops tested after Covid-19 scares By The Nation More than 600 fans who attended a luk thung concert last month have been summoned for Covid-19 tests after photos of the event revealed a packed-out venue and few people wearing masks. Separately, more than 100 American and Japanese soldiers visiting Thailand for a military exercise have been tested following a Covid-19 outbreak at their base in Okinawa. About 2,400 people who attended a concert by Ratchanok “Janey” Suwannaket in Nakhon Si Thammarat on July 25 will be tested today after 613 fans from the same concert tested negative yesterday, said Panprapa Yongtrakul, Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) spokeswoman, today. Organisers of the temple-fair concert were charged by police for packing out the venue but failing to impose social distancing or other disease controls. Meanwhile, a close watch is being kept on foreign troops from Guam and Japan who are in Thailand for the Hanuman Guardian military exercise with Thai special forces. The soldiers were tested for Covid-19 after an outbreak at their base in Okinawa, Japan, caused alarm among Thai netizens. Tests on all 71 visiting US soldiers came back negative while the Japanese soldiers are still waiting for their results. All are staying in a Bangkok alternative state quarantine hotel. Singapore has done 1.5m with a population 1/20th the size.
pentagara
Yeah, Japan probably has a similar issue like Thailand or Hong Kong: People get exceptions to quarantine and testing even if they are coming from high risk countries and then they spread their virus in the local community. The only reason why you would allow such incredibly irresponsible and selfish behavior of foreign military personnel in your own country is power, I suppose. What else could it be? https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2020/07/15/national/coronavirus-outbreakas-u-s-bases-okinawa/
Kinnock
So families are separated, people working in international tourism lose their jobs, airlines go bankrupt - but war games go ahead?
rwill
It doesn't matter how many concert goers there were if none of them have Covid-19. And supposedly the only people in Thailand with Covid-19 right now are those in quarantine.

Just to add to this why keep reporting infections when the majority of people are asymptomatic? Hospital admissions and deaths is what should be reported ... or at least reported alongside infections. Press just wants big numbers and sensationalism so keeps quoting infections only.
