Tourism and Sports Ministry proposes opening islands to tourists

 

   

BANGKOK (NNT) - The Ministry of Tourism and Sports will propose the opening of five islands to foreign tourists, emphasizing confidence in safety measures for both tourists and communities.

 

Ms Wanthana Jaengprajak, Deputy Director General of the Department of Tourism and Sports, disclosed today that the Ministry of Tourism and Sports will propose to the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) the opening of five islands including Phuket island in Phuket, Phi Phi island in Krabi and Samui, Pha Ngan and Tao islands in Surat Thani because such areas could be easily regulated in terms of care, quarantine and monitoring of tourists in different areas to ensure the safety of both the community and the tourists themselves.

 

A meeting of heads of government agencies and private organizations of all the three provinces was held, to ready the areas by determining entry requirements and to assess the level of approval of people in the communities. The private sector quite clearly agreed on a common approach to safety and a new normal tourism style which still adhere to the public health principles of wearing face masks and social distancing.

A meeting of minds does it again.

 

Flights inbound,transfers to destination, quarantine etc. Could be problematic?

My sides are hurting this morning. These people are not only delusional but seem to not know what is happening in the world. No borders opening, quarantine either in Thailand or when they get back to their host country. The world economies are shrinking and these nuggets are living in cloud cuckoo land.

 

Why don't they just say the Olympics will be held there and the Tour de France. Oops they have said that once before.

the minster was probably told to come up with some harebrain tourism idea quick smart or his salary would be cut and theses are the results it seems...

Maybe. 

 

Phuket to many local people. What about them? If do it, are local people allow to leive Phuket? Be dangerous to spread. 

 

Maybe small island be better. Local population must agree. And if leive the island, should be quarantine 14 days. Test. 

 

Phuket, Samui be difficult control it. 

 

Only some countrys can come. Eg New Zealand

 

It's going to happen sooner or later, they've got a blowtorch on their & $#@% to get the economy working. Then inevitably, the cases will start to increase and we'll have that second wave... Question is, how bad will it get?

Enough to keep me laughing at there anecdotal attempts to keep earning there paychecks without being put out of work thenselves. Continually grasping at strEs with this same attempt at opening tourism. To many moving parts to make it work feasibly as they truly believe its a winner.  I guess the new rankings of showing them and a few other countries as having low or no Covid have gone to there heads and they are having delusions of grandeur.  $$$$ are all they see.

I am waiting for them to suggest dinosaurs on the islands to bring in the baht.

Koh Vid and Koh Rona are quite beautiful I heard..

 

welcome to thailand. here is your hand carved elephant....along with your monitoring ankle bracelet and your quarantine papers. o and as an added bonus this govt issued sim card. by the way you will be bused directly to your holding area..ahem i mean resort. don't mind the large number of security personal. they are there for your safety. enjoy your stay in thailand. sawat dee krap. 

 

i'm willing to bet at least a few hundred people worldwide MAY be interested in something like this. 

 

the vast majority of normal people will just giggle and click on the next stupid idea news story put out. 

 

good grief. mass tourism is dead. no one is coming here in large numbers for a VERY VERY long time....... if ever again. 

Visitors will need to parachute in, and if by chance they turn into Islands of the Damned/Zombies it's very easy to quarantine.

This wouldn't work. Not many foreigners will come, and for every foreign tourist that did come a Thai tourist would stay away because they would be terrified of the "disease ridden" foreigners.

 

Face it, the days of easy money luring foreigners to be over charged are over for at least a couple of years.

But this one isn't new, it was mooted a few weeks ago.

 

 

Let's turn the islands into giant FEMA camps....Surround them with fences and barbed wire and have security personnel patrolling with dogs to make sure all the dirty foreigners do not escape.....Foreigners will be tracked and monitored 24/7 for their safety...

Islands that shall be known as "The Plague Islands" from now on. Maybe they can do a reality show, complete with booooooioioioong sounds and screaming katoys to boot.

Do you mean many of the surplus Generals will get a chance to do something good for the country...possibly for the first time in their careers.  ????

Thailand better do more tests, there are already 2 imported cases from Thailand in the past 2 days in Japan and Italy

How about Chiang Mai it will soon be cut off with a smoke ring and I can come back home and isolate for 6 months as usual ???? 

Bangkok Post has an article a couple of days ago that says that tourism chief is proposing to end dual pricing and to create new promotions for expats. 

 

(I believe I cannot link to article directly but you can google bangkok post dual pricing within the last week to find it.)

 

If what Bangkok Post report is true then that means at least someone in Thai gov values us foreigners. This is great progress.

Kind of. It does not likely mean any of them value foreigners. It likely means they are panicking and can see no way out other than going against their nature which is to treat foreigners (and especially white foreigners) as poorly as they can get away with.
