July sees major increase in flights as aviation authority eases ban

Air traffic volume in July exceeded 27,000 flights after the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) allowed airlines to operate flights across the nation, the Aeronautical Radio of Thailand (Aerothai) said on Friday (August 21).

Previously, the CAAT had announced a temporary ban on flights from April 3 this year to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic.

After the Covid-19 situation was contained, the CAAT allowed airlines to operate flights across the nation in May and some international flights after permission was given in July, causing air traffic volume to increase.

Air traffic volume in July this year totalled 27,639 flights, comprising 3,711 international flights, 14,054 domestic flights, 1,991 flights across Thai airspace and 7,883 military and government flights, Aerothai said.

Why would they include flights that are just using Thai air space (1,991) , Gov and Military flights (7,883) leaving just 17,765 actual international and domestic flights carrying paying customers and some of those international where more than likely cargo planes like DHL etc . Probably trying to boost the numbers to make everything look better than it really is .

I hope you are correct.....if not, that is an awful lot of people flooding in from God knows where. I see quite a few Chinese moving into my condo at the moment .....where the hell are they coming from???

Flights don't mean squat.  Passengers entered through immigration is the valid number.

Nail on the head with that one. I think your bang on with the cargo being what's making up the number and of course private jets helicopters etc.

Another "News" story with no news.

They must be talking about internal flights it is certainly not overseas flights that I’m aware of

That's well over 100 international flights a day, I'm surprised, I thought it would be more like 20 or 30. Or are they including the scheduled international flights that the airlines then cancelled? All the same, people affected by the amnesty ending next month can hardly claim to be "trapped" here.

blabla, how many NEW TOURISTS ?

Because the press release is from Aeronautical Radio of Thailand (Aerothai), the state enterprise that handles air traffic control and aeronautical navigation and communication for Thailand. From their perspective, overflights and military flights create just as much work for them as commercial flights. The fact that statistics about those other flights is of zero interest to people outside of their company is of no interest to them or to the "journalists" who copy and paste their PR releases without critical comment.

This information has nothing to do with passengers - it's only about aircraft. The incoming aircraft mostly have no passengers. If you see people moving into your condo, they're probably just coming in from another building in Thailand. Even during the pandemic, life goes on and folks move around for various reasons.

They're talking about aircraft movements, so that "3,711 international flights" includes arrivals and departures, cargo and passenger. That probably means no more than 30-40 incoming (mostly empty) passenger flights each day.

Probably, made in China?

Flights, flights, and more flights but who coming in and who is leaving? That is the question?  Tourist is still down. No money, no honey and the poor still getting poorer!

Plus who is taking a chance on flying and become positive on any flight?

It's called massaging the figures to get headlines.

You know you either have a tourist problem or a military one if the International flights are out numbered 2 to 1 by the army !

Good   question  where are the Chinese coming from ??

Perhaps trapped tourist  from another provence?

Yes, all this is smoke & mirrors for another audience. The immigration numbers would be important for us as you say.

7883 Gov,t and Military flights seems like an awful lot of Aviation Fuel used for little or no purpose.

Of the 17,765 International Flight, a large percentage of those will be Freight only flights, and repatriation Flights

Actual International flights with paying passengers near to ZERO

It would be good to see the actual paying passenger numbers that alighted in Swampy for a Holiday

( around a Dozen me thinks )

evrywhere else when they increase flights sees a surge  in cases from tourists in and out

The more you read these daily headlines, the more you know its meaningless.

And during the time of the ban I used the toilet at least 3.000 times - just to emphasize the importance of this news.

Wuhan

About 120 international flights a day. Probably includes incoming and outgoing, from Swampy, DM and CM? Not many. And likely the majority are FedEx, DHL and cargo. No specificity on international visitors. Means little. And what on earth deos the military need nearly 8,000 flights for? Just burning up the budget. What do those guys do, anyway? Any benefit to the nation, on any level? I understand some ground troops to keep out unwanted or infected (zombie) neighbors. But 2,200 generals? For what?
