Poll shows 98 per cent believe Thailand better than other countries

I got as far as: 87.1 per cent cited the tree bank that encourages people to grow trees for sale, 86.1 per cent named the Army that alleviates people's suffering.

And I realized it was a completely fake survey. Nothing more than Army propaganda. They will stop at nothing to convince the people how much they are liked and appreciated. Despite the fact that they are utterly despised by the vast majority of the people.

Because they generally don't have a clue about the outside world.

  • In my personal experience, 99.47% of Thais I have encountered believe that Thailand is the centre of the universe and the world revolves around them! .53% were thus undecided but tended to side with t

and of course those respondents have lived in all of the other countries and thus have quality experience; i doubt many of them could even list 10 other countries in the world

Most Thais live under a coconut husk, but not to the extent as this 'poll' makes one believe. Most likely the repondents were all from an army battalion and the officer ordered to respond in this quite embarrasing way.

The result of this 'poll' is typical for totalitarian states.

In a certain Yul Brynner movie (banned in Thailand) the lady tutor is teaching Geography and gets criticised over the map. Siam was too small. Before I came to Thailand I didn't quite understand why that scene was in the film...certainly got enlightened when I came.

and  60.3 per cent cited people who know that foreigners were trying to create conflict among Thai people.

- this is very worrying !!

Corruption, mai pen rai, coups mai pen rai, slaughter on the roads mai pen rai, convicted ministers mai pen rai, totally inadequate education system mai pen rai. At lest some of the young are not as brainwashed as some foreigners thank goodness so there is still hope.

All 'relative', something to get annoyed about and complain when carrying instilled 'western values'

Pay a policeman a fine rather than adding an extra day and the costs of going to court, pay a large fine and compensation to relatives, rather than have the public pay for your keep in prison, good or bad depends on your view

Corruption, can you blame small guy for trying to 'even the playing field' against the massive influence and purchase power of the global corporate? Who do you think is driving 'anti corruption' and global rate equality?

Convicted ministers how does that affect the man in the street - really

Education system, appears to be adequate for most available employment in Thailand, using a calculator is only considered dumb by Western fossils who are usually not so incensed by the use of a barcode electric till.

Carnage on the roads - speed - unfortunately a world wide failure of the human race!! can't really blame the country for the selfish actions of speeding motorists. What do you want the government to do blow dry the roads? I feel there will a much more demanding driving test soon, but have noticed how many foreign drivers appear to lack experience to cope with Thai conditions?

Yes there is room for improvement but really you are scratching around to try and pull a country 'into line' that for every day living is doing ok and quite relaxing for the general community.

Too many people read or watch the news and feel it has a direct effect on them because it comes into their home! It rarely does!! The news you don't see are the happy smiling faces at a village wedding, a house warming, a birth, a trip to the temple, a trip to beach, a family gathering maybe when working to help each other happy to do so, yes even at a funeral, you know the real Thailand, where everybody mucks in, as in Thai village life, as opposed to 'Global village' life where expectation rules and regulations curb everyday enjoyment!!

The young are entitled to critical thinking, the young are entitled to expect change, but as the man said 'don't burn the house down to get rid of the snake'

No problem with this, its the way things are done here, right or wrong its not our call,

I just can never understand why they fabricate stuff when glancing at any road for more than a minute could warrant numerous fines/opportunities of tea money.

Let them think whatever they want. I don't care. I only want to leave LOS as soon as regular flights are available and never come back.

A big part of the rest of the world seems to think the same. Maybe the Americans who think that are right this time.

Yet, so many love to come live and work there. And, I'm not talking poor refugees.

What's an assistant Professor?

Seems that you don't have a girlfriend, a family or other obligations in Thailand. For that I envy you. If I could, I also would cancel Thailand from my list of countries to even think about. There are so many other good places in the world indeed.

Prob get a similar result if the poll was taken in North Korea. ????

That's because 98% of the polled people never left Thailand to other countries other than Laos, Malaysia and maybe Burma...

Some may have been overseas to Phuket and Samui!

I want to leave for a holiday break, but need to come back to family. So, you're lucky, you get to escape. I can feel cabin fever kicking in and the overdose of somchainess is now nearing lethal. Need some break into sanity and real world every 2-3 months, at minimum.

So true. Politically both countries have a lot of similarities, despite this is not so clearly to see for newbees.

Never been in Lao but in Myanmar and Malaysia. Better people in Myanmar than in LOS and Malaysia is much more advanced than Thailand.

KL was always a regular escape for me,  great to stroll trough a clean city compared to the dump Bangkok, cheaper for shopping though etc. etc.

Stupid poll. Ask anyone from most countries and they will say the same about their own country. Ask any US citizen about what they think is the best country in the world. Is this article just the get the moaning bar stoolers all wound up?

Wait until the Thai banks collapse and ask that question again.

Plato's allegory of the cave...about sums it all up.

That's probably because 98% of the population has never left/can never afford to leave the kingdom for a few days/weeks in order to broaden their horizons. ????

No country is perfect, but here sure ain't No. 1.

Such drivel.

Do Thais really believe the propaganda this government feeds them.

My neighbors and people I talk to think the government is a joke.

This thread is about Thailand, not America.

It's good they're allowed to think this way

If you think this way in England your job and future becomes a risk
