I know many Thais that have gone to live in other countries and every one of them believes that they have moved somewhere with a better standard of living and quality of life. Yes, even those that are now in the UK or USA!

It makes me wonder why so many of us choose to live in Thailand!!!!!

Because they generally don't have a clue about the outside world.

  • In my personal experience, 99.47% of Thais I have encountered believe that Thailand is the centre of the universe and the world revolves around them! .53% were thus undecided but tended to side with t

Give them US visas and they will never come back home again.

It's a funny thing, and forgive me because you can very much accuse me of the same things I guess:

If I only spoke one language, had little education, couldn't travel because nobody would ever understand me, and did socially inappropriate things all the time (speaking in an international setting), then I'd think that Thailand was splendid too and would answer accordingly.

We are fortunate - very fortunate - for speaking english, an international language.

For the food, the heat.  You're life is nearing an end, theirs is just beginning.

Written from an old man to another.

Well, that's just an assumption.

The second sentence.

Ok, I'll stop now.

Okay, stopping.

Ahmen to that.

Gawd, the amount of country bumpkins I've met from America.  Good freaking lord.  About as cultured as a chewy thai steak.

Why it's for the Temples, Buddhism and the cheap way of life and relaxing atmosphere, isn't that what TAT says

A recent poll shows that 98 per cent of Thai people believe Thailand has more good things than other countries.

I agree, Thailand has the best hookers in the world.

(I assumed 'good things' was a euphemism for available young attractive women)

My highly educated and Christian Chinese wife born in Thailand (all true, don't laugh) was watching a polish film on Netflix. She asked me why they don't speak English? The argument ensued about Poland not being a US state, but a country in Europe.

OK. Which language is spoken in Mongolia ?

Chinese or Mongolian ?

I've been here since I was 28 and am now 50.

On balance, I prefer to live here.

But the poll itself is not balanced. Some of the questions are on topics its illegal to speak of negatively. Others on topics its dangerous to speak of negatively.

Add a sprinkling of obviously setup questions and you get 99%.

Thais love their country, and are proud of their traditions. Good on them.

He added that Thailand has more good things than other countries, so Thai people should not allow foreigners and some Thais to create conflict between them.

Oh how some love the status quo.   Let's blame the foreigners for any discourse.

The Thai government has well known flaws, but the average Thai is a good, fun loving person.  So, there are more good than bad things, but Thailand is slipping under military rule.

Wait a minute, you mean the worlds not flat like a pizza pie, I'll be damned. OK so I have pizza on the mind this morning. Having a slice with a cold glass of milk for breakfast.  Gotta put some energy back into the body.  Of course Thailand is the center of the world, at least that what TAT keeps telling everyone...

I thought it was thick crust, so it would be hard to just fall off....., I mean when its hot the cheese just slides off when its torn

One of the biggest flaws in the Thai culture is the expectation and reality that the children will take care of their parents...if they want to be productive at a higher income level, why isn’t it the other way around?

My parents put all 3 of their kids through college or graduate school...And then cut us loose...all ended up with high level professional jobs and careers...

we have or will do the same with our children...it’s the proper recipe not the other way around...

When asked what good things Thailand has,

Interesting they slipped this in at the end of the list of "good things"...........

and 60.3 per cent cited people who know that foreigners were trying to create conflict among Thai people.

which I guess links to the penultimate paragraph..........

For the first few years of my living in Pattaya my list of good things was nothing like their list!  My list included Nan,  Fon,  Lek,  Moew,  Na,  Le et and many others. ????

Sounds like any country in the western world these days.

How many of these 98% have lived for a considerable amount of time in ANY other country, to come to this conclusion?

Thailand's society is a lot more cohesive and caring than ours, where the elderly are left neglected to rot in money grabbing nursing homes.

gee multiple choice how convenient wouldn't want any real answers lol

I've been married to 2 Thai ladies at separate times. we're divorced now and both choose to live in Australia. I live in Thailand.

How odd, I thought children were expected to look after their parents almost everywhere in the world throughout history.

Barring the last 50 years in the west where children have become essentially selfish, rotten and worthless.

I can still remember my parents looking after and providing for my gran in the 60s and early 70s.

..... and my Uncle/Aunt looking after his father around the same time.

The western world is a sick and twisted place where families are ignored, and old folk stuck in nursing homes (or left alone) to die.

Tomorrows headline:-  2% of Thais have visited other countries

This is why Thailand gets nowhere.  There are many good things about Thailand but there are many bad things, such as the military dictatorship, the death tolls on the roads, the rubbish, the pollution, the cost of living in Bangkok etc...  Thais seem unable to be critical of their own society and this really holds them back from addressing the shortcomings.  Thailand's golden demographic age is passing fast.  In 10 years the population starts shrinking and there will be few young people left to address the poor infrastructure and debt problems this generation leaves.  Very sad.

86.1 per cent named the Army that alleviates people's suffering,

Well that can be taken 2 ways. One is how you put a hurt horse out of pain, and the other is public funds encroaching on the people. In the USA if needed they use the national guard, but it aint the same as the military here as they are only like reserves.

And when you have that mentality and indoctrination no wonder things will never change. I wonder if 98% of people have been outside of Thailand. There are many good things here like the weather but itr doesn't suit everyone.

Every Thai I know who goes to the UK, USA or Europe says that there are so many things Thailand is way behind with the infrastructure, police and corruption to name a few.

Nationalism and pride is a good thing for me but being delusional, is not.

100% agree. My wife - a 41 year old school teacher - had never heard if 9/11 and the towers until she married me 5 years ago, one of the biggest events in modern history !
