Pro-democracy students raise a three-fingers, symbol of resistance salute during a protest rally in front of Education Ministry in Bangkok, Thailand, Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2020. Student protesters have stepped up pressure on the government with three core demands: holding new elections, amending the constitution and ending the intimidation of critics of the government.

Thailand’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovations (MHESRI) will hold a forum this Thursday where the first group of students will share their views on setting a roadmap for the future of Thailand.

The Minister, Anek Laothammatas, said today that about 60 students, who are the presidents of student councils at various universities, will be the first to be invited to present their opinions.

Power to these young people.  I really hope this pseudo government doesn't do a Tianana

men Square on them at their next peaceful protest.  But then Prayuth and company follow the CCP playbook.

This has the potential of going to get bloody.

Thailand's roadmap is a carousel. Coup-dup-daloop-bop-ba-coup- aaannd one two three again! They'll never be able to break free unless there's a massive cultural shift like the French revolution was.

It's rather interesting to me how passive the military has been over the protests, and I wonder if they are re-assessing, if they want to remain in control should they continue to be shackled to certain institutions.

Obviously not a subject to be discussed here, but a rather insightful article from the NYT may shed some further light on the current protests.

power, around the world, is so entrenched that the the only way for real revolution is to tear down all existing political structures and parties and figures and build again from scratch. People are unwilling in general to do that.

Yes, but remember what happened the last time around. Napoleonic wars. The power vacuum left behind by revolutions is catnip for dictators.

Or the mayhem in early 1900's. Bolscheviks, fascists, etc took over when monarchies were toppled. There are plenty of warning examples.

That's why democracy is preferred. While flawed, at least it can self correct over time.

too true. it is the way of man. revolution topples the privileged class only to replaced by a system that progressively gets more and more corrupt with more and more nepotism and then repeat. the only difference now is this last cycle has taken so long the elite are so entrenched with power that we might be looking at an impossibility.

But democracy is not present in reality in any modern country in its true form,.
