Show passport to top up cards

Featured Replies

Why have they been wanting to see my passport to top up my MRT card ? Only recently this has been happening , and last time had to put my phone number on a form. I carry a laminated copy and one ticket booth would not accept it .Wanted original.

Is slightly annoying ,, but what is the reason for it . Is this the same on BTS ?

Bizarre. topped up bts rabbit card sunday morning. did not need passport. But, did have to show my passport and let them register my rabbit card to it some time ago. Similar to registering sim card with passport.

The MRT has had to comply with regulations regarding cards with stored monetary value.  It started from the 8th.  You will only need to show it one time in order to register.

Yes when I bought my cards years ago , I showed passport. but that was a long time ago .. but now several times in the past weeks.

It's about money laundering, since last year that's required, but not all employees insist on it.

I bought my Thai sim card in 7-Eleven, didn't have to show anything.

I've got $20M to launder, how many times will I need to top-up my MRT card before the job's done?

If you top up 500 baht a day, would take 3448 years.
