Thailand not opening to foreign tourists any time soon

Featured Replies

The indecision is not on the part of the people. The people and business want borders thrown open, tourists welcome, and life to restart.

The details that are delaying decision have already been sorted by most other countries. Decisions must be made, and soon, because the country is hurting, its future in peril.

Decisive action is needed, no more paralysis.

The target should be borders open for a bumper high season 20/21.

  • Don't say that. This government is very smart, well-educated, generous and loves the Thai people passionately. They've just had a bit of bad luck. Could happen to anyone.

Hijacking is going on, when will thais take the streets to stop this incapable government? The last 15 years they came out for much smaller issues.

Not only thais are hijacked also many foreigners in and outside Thailand.

Like it or not, this government has done a very good job of handling the COVID crisis.

The yellow shirts only came out in numbers fifteen years ago after a massive propaganda campaign against the then PM by Sonthi's media empire and payments to attend rallies.

After the precedent was set, the red shirts had Thaksin paying them to be shipped down from up North.

As there is now no paymaster I doubt there will be anything other than the students out on the streets.

How the fck this goverment spread the news to reopen Phuket and after that start to discover the many things to consider. These incompetent azzholes make me wild. What stupid animals are governing that country. Get rid of everyone and put well educated professional people in charge who don't need their fckn picture on daily basis in the media but do instead a good job for the people!

You first have an idea. Then -you stupid Thai goverment agent read this- then you discuss it with other agencies involved. Then you come up with an optimized plan. Then you decide on governmrnt level about that plan. And only then you put your ugly and corrupt face into the camera and communicate that plan.

The problem is, that every nameless and useless official wants to see himself in the news. So they can't wait until something actually has been decided, they run first to the media instead of communicating with other agencies first. Sick Thai style!

The other thing is the media, included Thaivisa! If a "news" does not pass a certain trashhold DO NOT REPORT IT! Why do we need to read every brain fart of every idiot Thai official?? Why do YOU need to spread hot air, Thaivisa?

"Entry will also only be limited to tourists from Covid-free countries."

If Thailand is one of these countries, why are we still being mandated to wear masks and observe "social distancing"?  If we are "Covid-free" then there is nothing to protect against, right?

"Entry will also only be limited to tourists from Covid-free countries".

There are only, currently, 10 Covid-free countries.

1. North Korea ????????

2. Turkmenistan ????????

3. Solomon Islands ????????

4. Vanuatu ????????

5. Samoa ????????

6. Kiribati ????????

7. Federated States of Micronesia ????????

8. Tonga ????????

9. Marshall Islands ????????

10. Palau ????????

11. Tuvalu ????????

12. Nauru ????????

Good luck with that.

Turkmenistan is not Covid free. They are not testing for the virus. They just get on with their lives. The president didn't need the virus to install a totalitarian rule, as Turkmenistan is a dictatorship already.

Same-same - please don't publish this anymore,

it's turning into a tragedy of errors.  Not funny anymore.

Follow the lead by copying ...Is the best it gets.... Initiative and planning is Rocket Science to this firm.

'She added that the government needs to consider many factors, including guidelines, screening processes and measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19 to ensure there is no second wave of infections.'

Perhaps she has also realised that with all the additional requirements, nobody will want to come anyway?

It's already been mentioned many times in great depth, so I won;t go over old ground any more than I have to, but coming to Thailand under the present conditions e.g. 2 weeks quarantine and then walking round with a GPS ankle bracelet  wrist bracelet tracking their whereabouts, and all the other restrictions, is NOT going to attract tourists!!!

(Except maybe the few who want to visit a prison as part of their agenda of "tourist attractions"!)

Same to North Korea and Thailand

This is interesting. They will only allow tourists from "Covid-free countries", but still require them to quarantine for 14 days, even though they're coming from Covid-free countries!

This is something that I anticipated they would do. Continue to require quarantine in these expensive 5-star resort hotels, even after there will be a need for it. If they truly want foreign tourism to come back, they had better do away with this requirement or the tourism industry is doomed for sure.

"According to the Phuket Model, tourists will be allowed to land on the island, but they will have to undergo a 14-day quarantine first and their travel zones will be limited. Entry will also only be limited to tourists from Covid-free countries."

Thanks, but this sort of thing is going over the top now.

OMG, really. Just take a chill pill. It will be OK

"She added that Phuket residents and Thai tourists can rest assured that no steps to reopen the country have been taken "

REST ASSURED? Are you kidding me?

Its to ensure folks spend there money in a resort where the government folks have a vested fiduciary interest.

Yet other news channels are now reporting that long stay visas aimed at europeans are being prepped?

Exactly! Someone's been paying attention. Good job.

Unmistakably Escher!

Open for Xmas/NY never been in doubt from day 1.

They can keep putting out these swerve balls but at the end of the day they can’t sustain an economy without foreign tourism despite what the odd foreigner thinks whilst sitting on a deserted beach.

I fear the Corona virus is busy elsewhere at the moment...but like the flu...will eventually affect a large percentage of the Thai population...

Thinking of entry via Myanmar. Illegal border crossings are a much bigger risk than a few tourists entering through quarantine. Vietnam also thought they were clear of the problem after 100 days without infection.

My girlfriend maid went to laos and crossed illegal. Apparently happens quite alot lol

Everything we've read about the Phuket model has come from tourist authorities, not from the government. Never listen to TAT, they are so far from reality it's mind-blowing.

"Entry will also only be limited to tourists from Covid-free countries."

There are not many Covid-free countries in the world.

All the hotels in phuket scrambling to get asq qualification have just been shot down in flames.
