Thailand not opening to foreign tourists any time soon

Thailand will not be fully reopened to foreign tourists along the lines of the so-called “Phuket Model” any time soon because the government has to consider too many details, deputy government spokesperson Traisulee Traisoranakul said on Friday (August 28).

She added that the government needs to consider many factors, including guidelines, screening processes and measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19 to ensure there is no second wave of infections.

She added that Phuket residents and Thai tourists can rest assured that no steps to reopen the country have been taken and that utmost precaution will be taken when borders are reopened.

According to the Phuket Model, tourists will be allowed to land on the island, but they will have to undergo a 14-day quarantine first and their travel zones will be limited. Entry will also only be limited to tourists from Covid-free countries.

  • Don't say that. This government is very smart, well-educated, generous and loves the Thai people passionately. They've just had a bit of bad luck. Could happen to anyone.

What is the best definition for all these (same) themes ?

One step forwards ...2 steps backwards

One step backwards...One step forwards

Or Running in circles

And that is only the beginning I guess...but then again no need to read the new posts...just make a screenshot of the 175+ announcements  and counter-announcements and have them pop up on the screen depending on your mood. To read  and react without moderation lol

And there you have it.  another flip and then a flop backwards.  I am beginning to think the country is being run by a troupe of Chinese gymnasts.  You just never know what to expect.  Order a Hamburger and get a Chicken Sandwich.......French fries and instead you get onion rings.

I can see many residents fainting ...some of them going into coma

No noise...so everyone is calm and reassured

What she needs to do, and what is extremely difficult to do, it seems, is study what the result has been of allowing foreigners into other countries that did not totally shut their borders. Did those countries show a marked spike in infected cases from abroad? Otherwise it is just baseless speculation.

"because the government has to consider too many details"---

Is this not where the problem lies , perhaps?

Can you imagine those in businesses, first expecting for the economy to be opened up, and then an announcement saying its not, then it is, then its not, got to feel for them.

Too many details to consider for all these glue sniffers.

It probably has come, done its dirty business and hunkered down until the next flu season. Just went unnoticed or unreported because of any number of reasons.

It never was and still never will be open befor next May 2021 which would be the earliest for vaccines etc..a few retirees and homeowners but mass tourism...never.

Vanuatu? There's probably some remote jungle left somewhere where the virus hasn't gotten into yet. Or do they mean the ones that don't test at all?

Oh, today I read that besides Vanuato it is indeed Turkmenistan and North Korea which are (or better "report themselves") the only Covid-free countries of a considerable size, with their governments as honest and honourable as the Thai government.

So, letting in tourists from these two commendable countries certainly will rescue the tourism industry in Thailand.

How many zillions of tourists came from these countries before and want to enter now?

What's the difference? It seems that most consumers of mass media are not able to understand that countries with low rates of coronavirus are simply the ones who haven't been testing or have been using fake test kits.

Forward thinking and planning are not traits shared by many Thais unless raised in the West - which eliminates most of those currently attempting to make decisions which require forward thinking and planning.  <laughs>

Phuket residents can not to worry. So called ‘Phuket model’ is just another idiotic fantasy which will never be implemented.

Hope the whole country goes bust.

Then we can back to the days when we were welcomed and had a good exchange rate.

Then it really will be the land of smiles again.

Thailand, you forgot who supported you when you were a third world nation so its time to remind you.

It could be true. There were thousands of Chinese from Wuhan travelling in Thailand during December-January 2019- 20.

In my opinion the virus was spreading unnoticed.  We could guess so, as there was a spike in deaths in Thailand during February and March that was above average.

Also there is a study that 20% of Thai population has antibodies to the virus. That proves the virus has been here well in 2019.

In my opinion if you don't talk or mention about this virus the lives could've continued as normal with no effect to economy. Some countries actually chose this model (Turkmenistan for example).

The excess deaths, if you take the New York Times data which originates from Thai civic registration system, started in November 2019. That's before anybody outside CCP knew about it. I don't remember anything else happening at that time, so could well have been covid, silently doing it's thing and nipping off elderly. If the actual raw data was available to mere mortals (apparently NYT requested it from registration bureau, I haven't found the place to download it directly ) , we could check if the excess deaths were old people.

Not only thais are hijacked also many foreigners in and outside Thailand.
