Biden condemns Portland violence, says Trump 'recklessly encouraging' it

DETROIT (Reuters) - Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden on Sunday called violence at protests in Portland, Oregon, unacceptable and challenged President Donald Trump to stop "recklessly encouraging" it, after one person was killed during clashes between rival groups.

Demonstrations against racism and police brutality have swept the United States since the death in May of George Floyd, a 46-year-old Black man who died after a Minneapolis police officer knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes.

Protests have roiled downtown Portland every night for nearly three months following Floyd's death, and police there said they had made arrests after one person was shot to death on Saturday night.

"I condemn violence of every kind by anyone, whether on the left or the right. And I challenge Donald Trump to do the same," Biden said in a statement, adding that "we must not become a country at war with ourselves."

"What does President Trump think will happen when he continues to insist on fanning the flames of hate and division in our society and using the politics of fear to whip up his supporters? He is recklessly encouraging violence," the former vice president added.

Republicans deny Trump is seeking to exacerbate violence with incendiary rhetoric, saying he wants to restore law and order, and accusing Democratic mayors and state governors of losing control of cities rocked by demonstrations that have seen outbreaks of violence, arson and vandalism.

Jason Miller, a senior adviser to Trump's campaign, said on Twitter that Biden had "sat idly by for months, refusing to condemn violence and chaos from his allies in Democrat-run cities."

Trump has emphasized "law and order" to motivate his political base and broaden his support. The Republican president trails Biden in national polls ahead of the Nov. 3 election.

On Friday, Trump said protesters were anarchists, agitators, rioters and looters.

Biden has defended peaceful protesters, saying justice must be done, but he has repeatedly called for an end to violence. His campaign said he would travel to southwestern Pennsylvania on Monday to speak on the safety challenges Americans face under Trump, including chaos in cities, a pandemic and an "upside down" economy.

The president will visit Kenosha, Wisconsin, on Tuesday after new protests erupted there last week following the police shooting of Jacob Blake, another African-American man, multiple times in front of his children, paralyzing him.

Joe Biden's minority vice presidential  candidate says that the protests. riots, looting, burning and killing will continue from now to the Nov elections and beyond...infinitum...such is the mindset of the radical Democrats.

Good luck with that with the hard working public...

If you need anymore evidence that Biden’s internal polling numbers are tanking - this is it.

Almost 100 days of chaos and barely a peep. His runningmate pushing for donations to provide legal assistance to rioters arrested for rioting. Top leftwing politicians calling the feds “stormtroopers” for protecting federal buildings. Governors allowing the ripping down of statues. Governers refusing federal assistance and defunding their police force ON TOP OF hamstringing their ability to stop rioting. I could go on for days.

November is gonna be interesting.

The topic is not about polls .  Stick to the topic or face a suspension.

Trumps visit will be something to watch. Chaos will no doubt ensue and local politicians will be the ones to pay attention to.

Also the little footnote on Jacob Blake right there is lacking a few facts and context.

Ok, how about a little reality.  What is happening is that every-time a black is killed, for whatever reason, the protesters burn and loot their ghettos.  These are the same ghettos that have been declared 'food deserts' since most of the stores have moved out.  Sounds like a sustainable model?  LMAO, if you think so, you are probably a Democratic.  I represent the rest of the tax paying Americans, live in a gated community of heavily armed $1M homes. Riots are 100s of miles from here, and will never come here.  We will react on November 3rd.  Until then, have at it. ????

Exactly. The 95 days of riots were all well and good while they were thought to benefit the democrats, and then polling reality hits and they try to distance themselves. Not only try to distance themselves,  but actually blame Trump for causing the leftist riots that he has been repeatedly begging to be allowed to quash. As often in liberal politics, you just couldn't make this up!

Luckily, as we now see in the polls, it turns out middle America does not want Portland and Seattle and other dem flagship cities rolled out across the US. Good choice guys.

Just where does the buck stop? Who is in power? Who is the self professed president of law and order?

trump indulged in a tweet storm with 90 messages condemning democrats and so on, The only activity trump is good at is increasing tensions as a political ploy and enriching the elite; hopefully it will backfire with him and his enablers being wiped out come 03/11.

But this has been going on for months?......So he "urged" on one occasion? That's not leadership!

Didn't Trump talk about thugs yesterday. Looking at their signs it seems they support him.

What exactly did Trump do to incite the riots?  I'll make it simple for you, use the George Floyd incident.  Now what did Trump do there to incite the unrest?  Or are you taking your lead from the unwashed protesters and looking to place blame where-ever you can?

Over 2 more months of this and then the storm will hit whoever wins. I suspect a Trump win will see protests on a scale never seen before, possible civil war the way this is going. A Trump win will also see the anti lockdown and anti covid rules protests intensify in Europe as he is the figurehead for the QAnon believers.

We are entering dangerous times and possibly major changes.

Luckily in Europe there are not too many QAnon or Trump believers.

When is context needed for shooting someone in front of their children? The context being a country full of hatred for each other.

You would be surprised, Robert Kennedy Jnr spoke at the Berlin demo on Saturday and many had Q signs, same at the London demo on Saturday. A lot of people in Europe see Trump as the leader of the fight against the cabal/NWO, scary stuff what these people believe.

I don't allign myself with any side, but I think the covid-19 restrictions need to end.

He tweets several times a week, "liberate <insert city here>". That is inciting people to go out and clash with protesters.

Driving a caravan of supporters into a city to counter demo is incitement and even more so when they were pepper spraying and paint balling them. Feels like the USA is falling apart, plenty of gun nuts ready to take action too.

Sounds like some sort of INFOWARS narrative. Europeans couldn't care less about the US.
