Navy chief of staff Admiral Sittiporn Maskasem, who joined the emergency situation committee’s meeting, did not reveal any information to the media and went into the Office of the National Security Council.

Where he banged on the table and demanded that the loyalty of the Navy was not to be taken for granted.

At this point the rest of the Junta pointed out that the existing fleet was not much of a threat...

You mean they want to practice sinking their own subs???  :cheesy:

Just wait till the day some Lt. Somchai forgets to put the mock torpedoes or mock depth charges in the launch tubes...

Thailand needs a better education, better government officials, better engineers, better beer, better wine, better people without losing their face over nothing, mechanics who know that the engine isn't part of the solar system, teachers, who know their subjects and do not hit students, or molest them.

A Ministry of Education with people who have a healthy knowledge on that topic, farmers with a much better income and education.

Thais with a mindset that foreigners do not come to Thailand because they can't get a job, or a woman elsewhere.

They need a lot more better educated doctors who are able to do emergency operations, also on weekends, but with a positive outcome.

Cops who do their work and less dead riders of motorbikes, people who know that a helmet is for protection of the brain, Immigration officers who can differentiate between a criminal and an ex-pat, pilots who understand English well enough to fly international routes, mechanics who know how to fix things and not just make it run again for a day, or two.

The list could go on and on for ages.

But what they NOT need are freaking submarines.

I've never had a quality item from China.

A submarine from China would only be an expensive coffin.

Thailand will need to eventually acquire the other two submarines if it intends to build an operational capability. One sub might do for training, but a minimum of 3 is needed to keep one on operational patrol. The other two will be in dock for maintenance, repairs, upgrades etc.

I always assumed a key reason to acquire subs is so Thailand can develop a credible anti-submarine warfare capability. If there is a threat from other submarines, then Thailand needs to be able to defend its marine assets against that threat. To develop anti-sub warfare Thailand needs its own subs to practice with.

Please tell what other nation is going to attack Thailand with submarines?

Or you have some inside knowledge of an imminent attack up the Chao Phraya?

Thailand is reliant on exports by sea, has offshore oil rigs, and extensive maritime interests. All of its neighbours have submarines. Of course it needs an anti-submarine warfare capability. The military would be negligent if it didn't develop this. It is not something you can buy off the shelf if a threat develops. It needs at least 10 years to develop and maintain a credible capability.

Thailand is in bed with the biggest threat... China.

And if one sailed up to any Thai interest in the ocean Thailand would turn and run, then try to diplomatically talk around any issue of conflict.

It does not need submarines end of story...

now go iron your trousers you'll be late for parade !

Yes sir! I bow to your superior strategic knowledge about what Thailand needs and doesn't need.

did somebody just came to some sense, that's a first... now let's see if China doesn't ask for (lack of sale/delivery) compensation

It wont be posponed. Prayut will have discussed it with his Chinese masters to pay later to save some face. Behind the scene nothing will have changed.

Just more smoke and mirrors
