Sending document to the UK which I would like to track

Recommended Posts

According to Thailand Post's online fee calculator, the cost for the document in question will be 59 THB with the "International letter - Air" service. However, I can, if I wish, pay an additional 85 THB to have it sent "International Registered-General". If I were to select this optional extra, would my document then be trackable all the way from the originating post office in Thailand through to the recipient address in the UK (and, hence, mean that I would not need to pay a staggering 1,400 THB to have it sent by EMS instead)?

I used to use the 85 baht "International Registered" option so I could track the delivery of my UK tax returns. This is the sort of tracking you can expect. Sorry about the quality of the image.

Many thanks. Reassuring that Thailand Post tracks registered mail all the way to eventual delivery in the UK.

I can vouch for this system; I also use it for my Life Cert. to UK - works every time.

That's what I'm planning to use it for as well!

I've been using Thailand Post registered mail to the UK for 6 years. They have never let me down in all that time. The new mobile app is very useful as it remembers your tracking number. No need to input it every time you want to check the letter's progress.

My latest 'life certificate' is on the way right now.

Use with confidence.

I understand that registered mail sent from Thailand is handled by Parcel Force at the UK end. If your LC is still not showing up on the Thailand Post tracker as having been received in the UK, might it be worthwhile checking the Parcel Force tracker?

I believe this to be erroneous information. Parcel Force handle parcels. (there's a slight clue in the name!)

And just to prove it I entered my Thailand Post tracking number into their web site and it came back with 'This number is for Royal Mail delivery'

Assuming that your experience is typical, it looks like we may have to wait for up to a fortnight after our registered item has been sent on its merry way from BKK for its receipt in the UK to be reported.

I stand corrected (my Parcel Force assertion was based on what has clearly turned out to be duff info contained in a 2016 thread)! Have just checked the Royal Mail tracker for my Life Cert which was sent on its merry way from BKK a couple of days ago, and was presented with the following message: "This item is now leaving the originating country. More information will be available when it arrives in the UK."

Mine's just ahead of yours. It reached Langley on Saturday and hasn't moved since. I seem to recall that incoming mail has to undergo a 'sanitation period' before it goes out for delivery. Makes sense I suppose.

I sent mine on 11 September and it left Thailand on 12th September. The latest info I have from the GPO track and trace in the UK is

So, post and parcels now need to spend time in quarantine in destination country.? One would think it would be more time and cost effective to spray sanitize the goods.

It took 5 weeks for me to receive my LC to my PO Box in Khon Kaen district.

My Life Cert was delivered yesterday (Monday), exactly a fortnight after I had posted it, but at the ridiculously early time of 04:25! Find it hard to believe that there was actually some lark called Tara who was up and about at DWP's Wolverhampton Mail Handling Site A at that unearthly hour to sign for its delivery, but there you go!

The journey between BKK Airport and Langley HWDC (whatever that particular acronym stands for) took all of 11 days in my case.

HWDC is Heathrow Worldwide Distribution Centre aka GBLALA.

I've often had mail "stuck" there, even before Covid-19.

According to the Royal Mail tracker Langley only hung on to my life cert for 78 minutes before sending it on its merry way to the North West Midlands Mail Centre (which, surprise, surprise is located in Wolverhampton)!

At what time was delivery signed for on Monday in your case, Bill?

Signed for by: TARA

Delivered: 4:20am

4:20 am in whose time zone I have no idea unless it was UK BST and Tara was on the graveyard shift.

IIRC the shifts would have been

06:00 to14:00, day shift

14:00 to 22:00 middle shift

22:00 to 06:00 night shift (sometime called the graveyard shift.

Looks like the "lovable" Tara was very busy signing for the receipt of witnessed Life Certs at that ungodly hour (I think it more likely that it was 04:20 BST rather than ICT in your case)!

Also interesting to note that IPC's Wolverhampton Mail Handling Site A appears to be manned on a 24-hour basis (Mondays - Fridays at least). Wonder how much that is costing in overtime rates which the taxpayer (including you and I) is presumably having to pick up?

Also wonder whether the early hour might have something to do with the IPC's insistence on having paper copies of our witnessed Life Certs in their possession before being prepared to take any action on them. Reckon that, if a van containing witnessed Life Certs were to set off from Wolverhampton at around 05:00 each day, it should be able to get to the IPC's offices in Newcastle upon Tyne before they shut for the day, even allowing for traffic snarl-ups on the M6, M62 & M1/A1 (which would appear to be the optimum route).

Beats me as to why we can't send our witnessed Life Certs direct to their Newcastle upon Tyne office in the first place, though!
