A group dedicated to creating an inclusive society put on a pantomime performance urging the public and the authorities to ensure equal learning opportunity and basic rights for disabled people in the new constitution draft.

On Sunday (September 6) evening at the Skywalk over Pathumwan Intersection in Bangkok’s Pathumwan district, the Alliance for Inclusive Society Movement (Allism) organised a symbolic pantomime performance portraying a disabled man on a wheelchair trying to reach for a golden pedestal tray, which is a symbol of the Thai Constitution.

At 6pm, group members sang the national anthem while making a three-finger gesture, after which a representative read a statement urging the public and authorities responsible for drafting the new constitution to include an article that ensures equal learning opportunities and basic rights to all disabled persons which was missing in the 2017 Constitution.

“The lack of guaranteed equal opportunities for disabled people has resulted in them being neglected and segregated from social activities, as well as losing career opportunities that could have helped improve their quality of life,” said the group’s representative.

Something sorely needed, but sadly will never happen, as the crowd in government do not care about abled bodied people, disabled are at the bottom of the pile.

In addition, a constitution to prevent people from getting disabled in the first place, like adressing the road madness... Once and for all.

ALM!

Thailand had provisions guaranteeing equal rights to government services for the disabled in the 1997 constitution, but these seem to have been conveniently 'left out' in the 2017 army re-write. However, the disabled should still have the rights they are calling for through the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Act of 2007. and Thailand's signatory to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Persons with Disabilities and the Incheon Strategy. The problem is not the lack of mention in the constitution but the fact that successive governments haven't and don't give a damn.

Seeing the state of most areas disabled people have a nightmare of a life here in Thailand, whether physically challenged or blind, Thailand doesn't give a hoot about them.

City planners are the worst offenders with no consideration during new building plans.

The constitution is for everyone , not single out one particular group, everyone is equal. At the moment one particular section in Australia wants their name to be included in the constitution, that proposal is not making any traction, except in their community.

555 They do by the look of it!  But I was referring to Buddhist, Christian,  Hindu, Jewish and Atheist Lives.  If I've missed any religions if was either by accident or design!
