September 11, 20205 yr Last year International Living published a top 5 list of the best places to live in Thailand and I must say, although some I can agree with, I just do not buy into their claims. I made this vlog a year back now but never actually published it here on my website, but when I checked it out found the subject very interesting. I am sure you have your opinions too on the subject so do drop a comment below. Quick footnote, I stand corrected on ‘fresh air’ in Chaing Mai – I visited only once before outside the farming burning season! The southern seaside resorts were never of interest to me and Bangkok was definitely a "no no" unless on business or "flying thru". However, with respect, I know many more ex-pats prefer the South rather than the North.
September 12, 20205 yr For me its purely based on proximity to quality schools - thus, it can only be Bangkok. If Hua Hin had top tier international schools, then I’d prefer to live there although the 3 hr drag to and from the airport would be a bit of, well, a drag on regular trips (when things pick up after Covid-19).
September 12, 20205 yr Popular Post Been just about every place Pattaya by far for me. Then BKK. Chiang Mai sorry, is one of the biggest bore of a place in the country. OK for a few days play some golf but to live full-time no way. Yes, it has waterfalls and some mountain scenery but you see it for 15 minutes then what? Spent a few days in farm areas in Issan almost went insane. No way not my lifestyle I think I would die early of total boredom.
September 12, 20205 yr By sea Hua Hin Krabi Chumphon Ranong Trang Inland Chiang Rai Udon Thani Kanchanaburi Petchabun Korat

I like the southern seaside villages, not crowded places and still enjoying it, interact with the locals, fisherman taking me with them fishing, together eat BBQ fresh fish (usually I am the one paying +/- 100 for the booze 555)..... the seaside resorts are a no no for me,

September 12, 20205 yr I like it up here in the Northeast countryside. After @ 30 years on the road selling Aerospace products the body decided to slow down a bit at 66. Loved it in the road Southwest US/Mexico/APAC fulltime for 13 years living 10 of those in China... People have many ideas of what’s Top 5 and depends on their likes..
September 12, 20205 yr Reverse look up with five places not to live in LOS will narrow down the search dramatically.
September 12, 20205 yr Anywhere in the north or central will have pollution problems for half the year. No thanks.

I do prefer the colder climate here up North, but when the air pollution starts I always leave for a few months. Still looking for an elevated area, further South and closer to the sea, but have found it yet.

September 13, 20205 yr Whenever I read any web site about Thailand and they say things like: "You can access quality healthcare, and there’s plenty to keep you busy—from yoga and Pilates to salsa dancing and bridge club—when you’re not soaking up the sun on one of the island’s many beaches." Then I know it is a load of khrapp. Chiang Mai is best for mature/retired Expats - downsides are 'smoke season' and 'distance' (by car). Pattaya or Phuket is best for the 'fun seeking' younger crowds - downside is all the young fun seekers/tourists.
