Government employees have been handed an additional two days of subsidised travel under the "We travel together" tourism stimulus scheme. The measure was proposed by the Tourism and Sports Ministry and approved by the Cabinet on Tuesday.

Thai citizens who sign up for the scheme get 40 per cent off the price of 10 nights’ accommodation and Bt2,000 towards airline tickets, plus Bt600 and Bt900 daily spending money on weekdays and weekends respectively.

The additional two days of subsidised holiday is available to civil servants, government employees, and state enterprise workers.

The move comes after the Tourism Authority of Thailand said more should be done to stimulate domestic tourism as only 17.5 per cent of 5.05 million registrants had booked holidays under the scheme as of September 5.

“We Travel Together” is part of domestic tourism stimulus packages worth Bt22.4 billion designed to keep Thai tourism afloat until the return of international visitors. However, the scheme has received a weak response since launching on July 18.

Nice of the government to treat its employees to holidays and bonus spending money from the dwindling financial pot whilst the rest of the state is suffering redundancies, homelessness and starvation.

More for the "haves" of Thailand.

"Have nots", born to their status, can go **** themselves.

That was decided in the inner sanctum of the Temple of Troughs, not under the Bodhi tree.

"Have nots" of Thailand please take note.

I'd reckon there is many "have nots" employed by the government that will enjoy the extra 2 days paid leave.

Meanwhile in the land of common sense and reason the government in an effort to find more money is reducing the work week of public servants by one day with a reduction of one days salary or wage until the crisis passes.  Politicans remuneration will be reduced to one days salary/week because that's about the true worth of their output.

Its coming October again and coverment worker's can make report to get 3% salary raise!(or even more) That raise can get 2 times / year March and October! So tell me where in this world you can raise 6% or more your salary EVERY year!?

If you have "worked" many years, only whit that raise you have double your salary! + all other extra what they get! Dont need wonder why all want be coverment officer! Even many dont know how much they actualy get salary! + free healt care hole family , free school stuff kids etc.

So, real workers get squat?

THB 22 billion is USD 600 million; in addition to this you add 2 paid holidays - all on the taxpayers expense.

The "have nots" are going empty-handed again and I wonder, how many of those beneficiaries pay taxes to the level of the perks. But yes, this ensure political silence among those "serving state and people".

2'000 years ago the Romans called it "Panem et circenses" - in far-away Thailand it remains as "bread and games"! Yet, ultimately the Roman empire went down the pan as well ..........

That stinks....

And furloughed workers only got 5,000 a month which I believed stopped a couple of months ago because the Government thought that the scheme was too expensive.

Did they forget the foreign teachers? Oh, they don't belong here, ok.
