Re Trump and Co., another nugget from the morning news: Quote Former Pence aide says she will vote for Biden because of Trump’s ‘flat-out disregard for human life’ during pandemic President Trump’s response to the coronavirus pandemic showed a “flat-out disregard for human life” because his “main concern was the economy and his reelection,” according to a senior adviser on the White House coronavirus task force who left the White House in August. Olivia Troye, who worked as homeland security, counterterrorism and coronavirus adviser to Vice President Pence for two years, said that the administration’s response cost lives and that she will vote for Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden this fall because of her experience in the Trump White House. “The president’s rhetoric and his own attacks against people in his administration trying to do the work, as well as the promulgation of false narratives and incorrect information of the virus have made this ongoing response a failure,” she said in an interview. OUCH!!!! That hurts! But of course, it's also entirely true. 3 2

It's startling how many people who worked directly for Trump (i.e., knows him better than most) find him to be such a failure as President. I'm sure there's many more who agree but prefer to keep their jobs so will remain quiet. As soon as Trump leaves office, I expect a tidal wave of revelations of how horrible Trump has been for the country. 5 1

Quote More than 70 former national security officials from multiple Republican administrations along with former Republican members of Congress announced their endorsement the day Biden officially accepted the Democratic nomination. The group, Former Republican National Security Officials for Biden, includes former NSA and CIA Director Gen. John Negroponte, former CIA and FBI Director William Webster, and former Department of Homeland Security chief of staff under President Trump, Miles Taylor. The U.S. average is 59 CV deaths per 100,000 population. Highest per capita death rate states/areas: New York City -- 282 New Jersey -- 180 Massachusetts -- 133 Connecticut -- 125 Louisiana -- 113 Rhode Island -- 102 Mississippi -- 93 District of Col. -- 87 New York (excluding NYC) -- 80 Arizona -- 74 Kind of curious -- lately, at least in the news I read, I don't see many news articles anymore about the many people dying of CV, I mean, their personal stories re their lives, families, circumstances.... There seemed to be more of that in the early going, especially coming out of NY City.... But maybe once you get to 200,000 dead, the editors and reporters think there isn't much new that can be told anymore. I know one of the infectious disease doctors in our area and had the opportunity to talk with him a couple of weeks ago. We were a hot spot for a time, but the infection rate has slowed. I asked him about how the situation with Covid-19 was doing. He works with the largest hospital in the state and also teaches at the medical school, so he knows his stuff. He said that they had beds available, but were limited should they get a surge; he said they also had enough ventilators, but again, not enough to cover a surge. He also said that they were having a big problem with getting people through the disease. They have been able to come up with treatments that are working well at keeping patients alive, but they are not progressing to being able to moved out of the ICU. He was cautious in what he said, but it's clear, many people are ending up in intensive care for a long time. They aren't improving but they aren't dying. I suspect better treatment protocols are contributing to a drop in the death rate. I also suspect that with a drop in the patient load, patient care is better. As this infection spreads wider afield in the population, and with the opening of schools and Universities, we will likely see more cases, a rise in hospitalizations, but given the course of the infection in younger people, probably less deaths. A lot of people aren't factoring in the amount of people that get sick or have to quarantine for an extended period of time due to a handful of infections. We have had several schools that opened and within a week had to close due to infections. Teachers are, of course, at greater risk, statistically, than students. 3 3

TallGuyJohninBKK Posted September 19, 2020 Posted September 19, 2020 This must be what Trump calls Making America Great Again!!! Per Johns Hopkins Sept. 18 CV update: Quote The US represents 22% of the cumulative global cases and 21% of the deaths, despite accounting for 4.25% of the global population. Quote The Johns Hopkins CSSE dashboard reported 6.69 million US cases and 198,055 deaths as of 1:30pm EDT on September 18. https://myemail.constantcontact.com/COVID-19-Updates---September-18--2020.html How did we get to be so lucky with such "genius" leadership??? 1
Popular Post TallGuyJohninBKK Posted September 19, 2020 Popular Post Posted September 19, 2020 And... these little gems were in the news this morning.... for anyone who doesn't already believe that Trump and Co. would be more than willing to interfere with and influence potential future vaccine decisions for political ends. If you read the following report and other versions of it, you'll find that the CDC's very controversial public decision to change its national testing guidance weeks back was driven by Trump political appointees, and done over the objections of CDC doctors/scientists (although that wasn't publicly known or disclosed at the time of the original change). The latest change today essentially reverts the CDC's testing policy back to what it was previously. Quote CDC reverses controversial coronavirus guidelines for testing people without symptoms The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday reversed heavily criticized guidelines on who should be tested for the novel coronavirus after experts inside and outside the agency raised alarms about public confusion over testing and concerns about the country’s ability to control the epidemic. The agency updated its recommendations to call for testing anyone who has been in close contact with anyone found to have the novel coronavirus. The guidance includes testing of those who do not have symptoms of covid-19, the disease caused by the virus. https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2020/09/18/cdc-reverses-controversial-coronavirus-guidelines-testing-people-without-symptoms/ AND Quote Trump’s appointees sought to censor what government scientists said about the coronavirus, emails showTrump political appointees tried to silence a longtime top official at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention after she stressed the seriousness of the coronavirus, arguing her statements to a medical group contradicted those of top Trump administration officials, including Vice President Pence. In a June 30 email, Paul Alexander, one of those appointees at the Department of Health and Human Services, excoriated Anne Schuchat, CDC principal deputy director, for remarks she made before the group affiliated with one of the nation’s leading medical journals. Schuchat, a physician, had spoken to JAMA Network the day before, saying she hoped the country could “take it seriously and slow the transmission,” adding that “we have way too much virus across the country … right now.” The emails were first reported by the New York Times. https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2020/09/18/caputo-censored-cdc-officials/ 2 2
Popular Post TallGuyJohninBKK Posted September 19, 2020 Popular Post Posted September 19, 2020 Quote C.D.C. Testing Guidance Was Published Against Scientists’ Objections A controversial guideline saying people without Covid-19 symptoms didn’t need to get tested for the virus came from H.H.S. officials and skipped the C.D.C.’s scientific review process. A heavily criticized recommendation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention last month about who should be tested for the coronavirus was not written by C.D.C. scientists and was posted to the agency’s website despite their serious objections, according to several people familiar with the matter as well as internal documents obtained by The New York Times. The guidance said it was not necessary to test people without symptoms of Covid-19 even if they had been exposed to the virus. It came at a time when public health experts were pushing for more testing rather than less, and administration officials told The Times that the document was a C.D.C. product and had been revised with input from the agency’s director, Dr. Robert Redfield. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/09/17/health/coronavirus-testing-cdc.html 1 2
