Greetings All

I will be leaving Bkk for a short trip to Australia, I plan on being away from Thailand for about three weeks.

Does anyone on this board know of any commercial storage services that I could use to hold my personal luggage ( that consists of about 5 suit-cases ), while I'm away from LOS. If such a storage facility does exist, how much are they likey to claim for providing this service ?

Thanks in advance for any information you pass onto me

When I checked before, the cost of those self storage places in Bangkok are all prohibitively expensive. For long-term, you're much better off just renting a dirt-cheap apartment and storing your things in there. For short-term, I'd use the airport left-luggage facility, but being you have 5 bags it'll be a bit expensive. If possible to reduce that number to 1 or 2 bags by using super-sized bags, then at 100 THB per day per bag it might be reasonable.

If you're staying at a hotel in Thailand, most hotels will allow you to keep your bags with them for no cost. 3 weeks might be pushing it, but giving the bellboy a nice tip and telling him you'll be back in 3 weeks should do the job. If you're not staying in a hotel, you might consider staying at a cheap hotel for just one night prior to your departure, but check with them first if they'll allow you to keep your bags for that length of time.

I don't know anything about this place, just saw it recommended on another site.

http://www.bangkokselfstorage.com/

I've used them. They call it "backpacker storage" and charge 100 baht per piece per week. Very clean, secure, professional and friendly. To get there take a taxi east on Rama IV past Carrefour and Channel Three, and they're in a small lane just past Boss Tower. From Sukhumvit, go down soi 26. (And no, I have no connection with this company except as a satisfied customer.)

I wouldn't use hotel or guest house storage for anything remotely valuable. You never know who has access to the storage room (if there is one and not just a cubbyhole behind the desk). And the airport left luggage is very expensive: 100 baht per piece per DAY.

It is a good idea to get some big cheap suitcases and reduce the number of bags. There's a quite good luggage store on Sukhumvit near Nana with lots of inexpensive big bags.

Very interesting that Bangkok Self Storage will take just bags. I never knew any places would do this and figured you just had to rent a unit even if you only had a few bags. Being I have a home in BKK I don't need it anymore but could have used that in the past.

I heard of bangkok self storage before but I used bigmove relocations for they only charge me THB390 for 1 cbm per month. They don't charge on a per bag basis but per cbm. I think the difference is that for BKK self storage you will have 24 hr access to your bags unlike for this company if you want to check on your bags you should come during their office hours (8am-5am) but i think it is ok since for THB390 it includes insurance and if you want to extend for just 5 days I think they will just charge you THB 10-20 baht per day.

hope this helps.

I had never heard of Big Move. Filipina26 didn't include a link, but I found them at www.bigmovethai.com/eng/storage.asp. Horrible website (web developers: here's a job for you!). It does indeed seem to be even cheaper than BSS. From its website it seems considerably less professional, though, if that's any indication. Filipina26, the website seens to give no address. Where are they located? How did you find them?

The website is really horrible I also tried browsing it. But you get pretty good service especially when you are a foreigner. The address I found in a website I think from US commercial service. Here is the address 10 Pattanakarn Soi 20/7 Pattanakarn Road Suanluang Bangkok. It's very near Ramkhangheng and New petchaburi Road.I brought my bags there just cost me THB60 from Rachada.

hope this helps
