BANGKOK(NNT) - The Government Public Relations Department (PRD) has invited related agencies to jointly develop a foreign public relations plan, aimed at creating a positive image of Thailand by highlighting the success of the country’s public health system in limiting the spread of COVID-19. The plan is aimed at building the confidence of international visitors, who plan to travel and invest in Thailand.

The PRD Director-General, Lt. Gen. Sansern Kaewkamnerd, has presided over the opening of a seminar on the development of the foreign public relations plan. The meeting was attended by representatives of 20 ministries working in international affairs. Participants gathered ideas on ways to raise awareness and the participation of Thai and foreign people. The plan will be in line with the fifth edition of the national public relations policy and planning.

In the seminar, the PRD Director-General laid down guidelines for the planning and ways for people to perceive the issue as more relevant than before. Key topics in the formulation of the foreign public relations plan for 2021, include explaining the COVID-19 situation in Thailand and its success in prevention and treatment, promoting Thailand as a center of medical service while inviting foreign patients to receive treatment in the country, publicizing the news that Thailand will host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), and promoting Thailand as a COVID-19-free country, that is ready to welcome international visitors.

The public relations plan must encourage Thai people to be good hosts, while making known that Thailand is ready to welcome foreigners who plan to live, study and do businesses in the country. Public relations efforts must rely on different media channels to reach the target audience, and also focus on languages used for communication.

I thought that was the job of TAT.  Well, now we have a whole new ball game to give TAT a run as a spin doctor.  Good luck PRD

Seeing that the director is a high-ranking soldier, I already have a hunch that this "campaign" is bound to be bungled and flawed. Why is this important department not headed by a civilian with a solid PR background? It's a rhetorical question, of course.

This will be called the Extra Paperwork Pequired Department "EPPD4" (Always sounds better to have a number in the title). It won't work in conjunction with the TAT as the latter's rules are making it too difficult for people to come to Thailand.

A committee of 200 people will be formed to discuss how to simplify and codify the rules of entry into Thailand. This committee will report its findings within 180 days for consideration by the cabinet who will make recommendations to parliament within 60 days. A referendum will be held for Thai people to decide whether dirty farangs should be allowed into Thailand within 90 days of the Parliament approval of the referendum. Assuming no hitches a decision should be reached within a year on how to integrate these two departments and then they can start working on proposals to safety allow tourists to come to Thailand. These proposals will be put to Parliament for debate etc etc.

Sounds like a propaganda effort.

Only in Thailand can it take 200 people to make a daft decision.

I guess the PM ordered COVID away from Thailand

By the numbers. Thailand hasn't has its Covid problem yet. Meaning Thailand will be at risk much longer than other countries. Low numbers to date means higher risk going forward.
