Sophon Cable TV reported that Chonburi Immigration's special temporary visa office at the Indoor Athletics Stadium on Soi Chaiyapreuk was very busy yesterday, the opening day.

The office is open from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm Monday to Friday until further notice.

Chonburi immigration officer Lt-Col Chanida Khwansuwan said that there were many tourists still stranded in Thailand despite the problems associated with the pandemic having eased.

An amnesty runs out on Saturday and many need to extend their visas.

She said that people who are sick, convalescing or caring for the sick can apply for 90 day extensions while those with letters from their embassies can get a 30 day extension.

Despite saying how busy it was yesterday, Sophon reported that the office would handle only 100 applications per day.

Further information can be obtained by contacting Chonburi immigration on their website, via Facebook or on 038 231 373.

So if they have done the 100 by 2pm, the staff relax and take the rest of the day off, leaving untold people panicking? Given the amnesty runs out Saturday, shouldn't it be open 24/7 to help clear the backlog? You just know that next week, there will be large numbers of people in jeopardy.

I can almost hear the rubbing together of hands here North of Pattaya.

Is this an additional office or has the main office on Soi 5 temporarily closed down for some reason?

It is strictly a temporary office to deal specifically with all the people who have waited until the last minute to try and get an extension to stay in Thailand another month.

Is the main office at Soi 5 open or closed now and the new temporary office the only one open?

It is still open for all the people that have to do something other than specifically applying for an extension of a visa. Those applying to renew an extension of stay or doing a 90 Day report (etc, etc) still go to Soi 5 like normal.

I thought I saw a post not long ago where it said that people going to Soi 5 to apply for the 30/60 day extension were being told to go to the temporary office on Chaiyapruek 2 (the stadium). (But everyone else was processed like normal.)

And should have done it early to make sure they got it, I did mine 3 weeks ago and the office was empty so not alot of sympathy here.

It's not as if they weren't warned.
