Popular DJ Annop killed in Bangkok smash-up, speedometer frozen at 200 km/h

Annop Poonsripattana, 33, a DJ at several entertainment venues in Bangkok, was killed in a likely high-speed crash early today (September 24) opposite Ratchada Criminal Court on a dangerous stretch dubbed the “Curve of 100 deaths” by locals.

 

He was also a contestant in the Take me out Thailand TV show in 2015.

 

Phaholyothin Station police, who were alerted at 2.30am to the accident near Soi Ratchadapisek 32 in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district, arrived at the scene to find a black Toyota Altis smashed into an electricity post. They found the body of Annop, the driver, in the back seat with a shattered skull and broken neck.

 

Officers reportedly said the car’s speedometer was stuck at 200 km/h.

 

 

Boonsong (last name withheld), 60, who works as a security guard at a nearby building, said that at the time of the accident, he heard a loud explosion from an electricity post, causing a blackout in the entire area.

 

“This area is highly prone to road accidents. Just last week a mother and her small child were killed here,” he added.

 

Police speculated Annop lost control of his car on the slippery curve after rain and smashed into the electricity post.

 

His body was sent to Police General Hospital for a detailed autopsy while officers contacted electricity workers to fix the damaged post and restore power to the area.

Wow no one saw a thing but a pic of a broken speedo makes all the sickos come out .. you do realise needles can get jammed in a crash at any point as the rev counter also shows and no the car wasnt capable of 200kpm.

 

People making assumptions here are just like Thai police opening their holes without thinking., but even they dont make disrespectful nasty comments about someone they dont even know in an incident they have no clue about but assumptions.. perhaps someday youll die or your kid or good friend might .. no loss to anyone though and obviously deserved it right ? you sickos.

I suppose that it would be possible to tweak the engine to get (according to one poster) 215 kph but I know that I wouldn't be happy at that speed even on a long straight 6 lane highway.

He should have thought about his parents too. Pure stupidity to go 200km/h in wet condition, lucky he killed only himself.

This is 6 year old stuff.

The "Toyota Altis GR Sport" is 1800 ccm, 140 HP.

The Golf GTI of my young years had 115 HP and made 200 km/h (less weight though).

If doing 200km or 124 mph that is flying and just a recipe for disaster waiting to happen just like it did. My top speed is about 135 mph in the USA and that was fast enough for me. Only did it a couple times.

They should rename the area ''The Curve of 100 Idiots '' !

Thailand seems to have the most ridiculous scenario coming this year, that poles, trees or other stationary objects will kill more than covid this year. ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC !

A friends Altis is speed limited to 180km/h, Wonder if this lads vehicle has been modified ?

 

The ECU will tell the actual speed at impact.
