Replace amalgam fillings

Featured Replies

A while ago there was a thread here asking about a good dentist to safely replace amalgam (metal) fillings. For anyone that's interested, I would like to report that I found an excellent dentist in Bangkok to perform this service. Thantakit Dental Center on New Petchaburi Rd - ask for Dr Piyaorn. She did an extremely good job at removing the fillings safely, with all the necessary precautions: rubber dam, high power suction, ventilation, charcoal rinse, oxygen, quick cutting and removal procedure and even PPE for me and all present in the room. The prices were very reasonable - only about 13,000 for 4 teeth with a 10% cash discount. All teeth ended up exactly the same shape and size as beforehand, and best of all she managed to save a problem tooth rather than excavating it and insisting on a root canal which seems to be the usual MO for most dentists.
I have since been back for checkups and cleaning and once again experienced helpful advice and suggestions, rather than insistence on procedures.

Highly recommended!
This center is not strictly speaking a biological / holistic dental center, but they did as good as I could possibly ask.

I had one done last year, 600 baht. 13,000 for 4 seems steep even with PPE everywhere

I had my two eye teeth (both snapped in half from biting the tarmac) rebuilt for 800bht each.

They did a really good job, matched colour, you can just see the joins if you look really close.

13k for four is a crazy price.

Siam Dental hospital, Chiang Mai, corner of Chang Puak and the Superhighway.

What was wrong with the amalgam fillings that they needed to be replaced?

15 years ago I went to see a dental hospital in the sukhumvit area for a check up. They recommended 4 wisdom teeth needed capping at over 40k and a front tooth needing filling. Rejected the work on the wisdom teeth, still not done, but thought as there I would have the one filling thinking a small price. When I got the bill it was a shocking 6k, 104 quid at the time. When questioning it they had a list of reasons, now I always ask the price before anyone does anything here and I avoid all large dental hospitals, chains and ones in expensive shopping malls. The one I have now does a good clean for 500 bht and crowns from 6k.

How many crowns have you had?

six, would not bother with taking out amalgum fillings though unless you have symptoms from them, lot of myths about them as well as the dangers from root canals

And each of the crowns were 6K?

No, that was just for a replacement crown, the full job is from 8k had a couple of those from him, cost more at Mahidol and that was a cheap resin one, this bloke uses porcelain, resin feels like plastic.
