If possible, using the most recent information, please do a short summary of the visa options/requirements for single and married (married to a Thai woman) males, less than 50 years of age and 50 plus.

Maybe like this:

Single male less than 50:

Married male less than 50:

Single male 50 plus:

Married male 50 plus:

I can't keep up with the changes. I think many others are in the same boat. No doubt most of us are particularly interested in the monthly income requirements or money in the bank requirements.

If all of this is too much to be condensed in one section, just dump it. I know there is already a lot of information on this all over the place.

I just want to see a short summary of the most recent situation.

Thanks.

At the top of this section there were some topics titled Immigration and police orders by Maestro. If you go into that section, you will find two english translations of the Police Order 606/2549. That became effective October 1, 2006. That is still supposed to be the basis for extensions and permits to stay. I thought it was pretty straight forward about types of visas and requirements for permission to stay, etc.

Maybe it wasn't straight forward enough.....................?

Anyway, I can't blame anyone for not keeping up with the visa situation and changes etc, because, even if there aren't any changes according to law, the embassy or immigration staff seem to change what they want occasionally without reagrd to the law.

I just thought some people may not have seen the police order. I thought it clarified most of the visa types and requirements. The most confusing issue, I think, was the "visa exempt entry" situation. I also agree that the immigration office or officers aren't the most consistant when applying the laws and regulations.

Reading this topic just now I figured that a flowchart was needed, took a sheet of paper and a pen, and soon figured out that this will be a difficult task. There are so many variables. It’s feasible to do such flowchart, but frankly, I’m not in the mood right now.

And in the end, it will still depend on the consulate where one applies. Some give only a single-entry non-O visa to a man married to a Thai. Others give a multiple-entry non-O even to a man who has no Thai relatives and is younger than 50.

It is visas the OP is about, not annual extensions, isn’t it?

JR Texas: Thanks........because of the differences in interpretation among immigration officials and constant changes in the rules, a flowchart would really be a difficult thing to construct and update. No problem......if I need an answer to a specific question, I will ask it in the future.

[As an aside: I am reading about the securitization of migration and it is making the visa rule changes in Thailand make sense on an intellectual level........they are still crazy and destructive to Thailand, but at least the changes are making sense to me within the context of the securitization of migration. It also makes sense why these immigration policies, initially promoted by Toxin, would be embraced by a military regime.]

I will help from my perspective :o

Single male below 50: SOME friendly consulates outside Asia (or nearest being Aus or Sri Lanka last I heard) will issue a 1 year multiple entry O visa based on "study Thai/Thai culture/visiting friends" Etc.

One can also with a sponsor letter from company+company papers (in Thailand but sometimes even if company not in Thailand) get the 1 year multiple entry B visa based on "researching business ideas/expansion in Thailand". Again; all depends on how "friendly" the consulate is, so research that first.

Another option could be the non-em student visa based on study Thai "full time" at gov. accredited Thai school. Full time is often only 10 hours/wk or so - but depends on the school. The better schools can help with application/emmigration Etc. If one plans longstay here it makes sense to pick up some Thai language anyway.

Finally - one can at some consulates/embassies obtain a double and sometimes even a triple entry tourist visa which with extensions can last you 6-9 months with only a few visa runs.

If above does not fit it looks like 3 30 day visaruns, 1 touristvisa-run(Penang Etc.), 3 30 day visaruns Etc. is the only way to go as no investment visa (3M Baht invested in condo or time deposit/bonds) anymore.

Hope helps!

Cheers!
