Tourism operators’ confidence index up in third quarter

 

   

BANGKOK (NNT) - With more COVID-19 lockdown measures being lifted, many economic activities have resumed. The tourism operators’ confidence index increased from 37 points in the second quarter to 60 points in the third quarter. However, it is still at a much lower level when compared to normal times.

 

The President of the Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT), Chairat Trirattanajarasporn, indicated that, if the situation remains unchanged, with no foreign tourists coming to the country, more tourism businesses, particularly those providing services to international travelers, are expected to close down by the end of this year.

 

To revive the Thai tourism industry, entrepreneurs need further support from the government. It can promote the country to foreign tourists, set up a tourism bank or a fund to revive tourism businesses, and stimulate domestic tourism by encouraging Thai people to travel in groups.

 

Following the launch of the government’s "We Travel Together" campaign, spending by Thai tourists is still not substantial. The government should adjust its conditions, such as cutting room rates on weekdays and distributing coupons instead of paying via mobile applications.

 

Thailand is forecast to welcome some 50,000 foreign visitors in the fourth quarter of this year, down 99.52 percent year-on-year. They are expected to generate a total of 4.5 billion baht in tourism revenue, down 99.11 percent. Throughout this year, the number of foreign tourists coming to Thailand is 6.7 million, down 83.07 percent, with 336 billion baht in tourism revenue, down 82.59 percent.

If there are no foreign tourists now there is nowhere to go but up.  

Even the 50,000 expected tourists is a pipe dream. It was announced today that the Government still hasn't finished the paperwork required to allow the first arrivals to come in next week!

The only reason that figure is so high is due to the 1st qtr of this year having tourist. Try running those figures from April 20 to April 2021. If they do not open - which seems unlikely - tourism will have gone from say 39 million to 75,000 - probably a 99% drop and a 99% hit in tourism income.

 

TAT and co  are always trying to put up figures to make themselves look good - try putting gloss on the cow toilet figures april to april !

 

The only thing these crazy TAT people will do next is adopt the song ...
